Galesburg was platted as a city in July 1869 south side of Spring River
where the Talbott mill was built. The mill burned in 1861 and was
rebuilt making it larger and more modern, and a carding plant was added
after the Civil War. A post office was established.
Several businesses were built. Population in 1869 was around 100 and
the occupations of the men of the town were a merchant, postmaster,
grist mill owner and two physicians. The Galesburg Dam across Spring
River was thought to be the best in the country, and was the source of
water power which ran the mill. Galesburg had a church and school.
