Free Love Colony Recruits
St. Louis Globe - Democrat, from Thursday, November 18, 1897:
"Free-Love Colony Recruits. Fifteen Families Enter "Rev." L.S. Garrett's New "Heaven." Sedalia, MO., November 17.
Fifteen families left Jayville, Benton County, in wagons yesterday to join "Rev." L.S. Garrett, the free-love advocate, who located a "heaven" at Willow Springs, Howell County.
Last summer "Rev." Garrett established a free-love community at Jayville and built a two-story building, in the first floor of which was the church, while in the second story was the office of the "World's Creset," the organ of his peculiar doctrines.
The conduct of Garrett and the female members of the community at Jayville became so obnoxious that one night in August last 200 or 300 men visited the "World's Creset" office and threw the press and type into the street. The quarters of "Rev." Garrett were visited but he escaped punishment by flight."
