Oak Ridge was a rural grade school, located north of the old town of Pattonsburg. The teacher
shown here is James Oliver Dickerson (1879-1964) who taught in several area schools. He was the father of
Ernest Dickerson who was the rural mail carrier in this area for many years. James reportedly did most
of his traveling on foot. These pupils attended Oak Ridge School during the 1924-25 school year: Velma Plowman, Fern Sweat, Iola Steele, Grafton Sweany, Lucille Plowman, Lilian Groschen, Frankie Sweat, Ruby Rice, Anna Mae Steele, Kenneth Sweat, Dale Hutchison, Leota Stitt, Lalah Rice, Georgia Sweany, Velma Sweat, Leota Slater, Gordon Summers, Laura Slater, Wilma Dea Kroschen, Edna Hutchison, Frances Sweany. Shown below is a souvenir of the Oak Ridge School issued in 1899:
