Federal Land Patents
Using this site, sponsored by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM),
you can find computer scans of orginal land patent records issued
by the Federal government, for both purchases and homesteads.
The search engine will tell you the name of the patentee, signature date, name of
county, number of acres, township, range and section of the land.
However, you must have a browser plug-in, or a graphics application,
that supports TIFF graphics (i.e., Tagged Image File Format or .tif files)
to view the land patent record itself.
