Eliza Jane Rakestraw was born October 27, 1845, in Dallas county and died at the family home south-east of Buffalo Saturday, January 5, 1929, at the age of 84 years, 2 months and 8 days. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. W. R. Dalton at the Methodist church in Buffalo Monday, January 7, 1929. Interment following in Oak Lawn under the direction of C. E. Routh & son.
She was married to Willie H. Swift May 25, 1865, in Dallas county and to this union were born seven sons, two of whom died in infancy and one, John W. Swift, died August 18, 1911, at the age of 36 years, 7 months and 4 days. She is survived by her husband, four sons, Robert S. Swift and Edward O. Swift, who were at her bedside during her illness, Charles L. Swift of Barton county and Thomas Bruce Swift of Benton Branch, twenty-four grand children, thirty five great grand children, one sister, Mary Ann Rakestraw, and many other relatives and friends.
She professed religion at the age of twelve years and united with the Methodist church of Buffalo, Mo., and lived a faithful christian life until death.
