Brief History of Clinton County, Missouri
Clinton County was organized on January 2, 1833, and named for Governor DeWitt Clinton of New York. Located in northwest Missouri, it is part of the Kansas City metropolitan area. The county seat, Plattsburg, shares its name with a town in Clinton County, New York. The region has a rich legacy of early settlement, agriculture, and civic pride.
