Obituary
William Hill

William Hill, son of Dan and Matilda Penn Hill, was born in Green county near Waynesburg, Penn., where he grew to manhood.

In the autumn of 1854, with his parents and three brothers, Reese, Thomas R, and John, he moved to Missouri, leaving one sister, Mrs. Mary Goodwin in Pennsylvania. They arrived in Clark County, Mo., in December, 1854, and settled on a farm near St. Francisville.

He confessed faith in Christ at the Hess school house near St. Francisville, in the year 1858, and united with the Cumberland Presbyterian church, of which he remained a member through out his life.

During the Civil War he served as a volunteer for the U. S. army in the 69th Regiment, Missouri Militia, also in the 96 Illinois Cavalry. He was honorably discharged at Selma, Alabama, Oct. 31, 1865.

On Nov. 22,1866, he was united in marriage with Miss Maria Tinsman, and God blessed this union with two children, Con M. and Willie Maude, both of whom remain in the home.

In the spring of 1870, he with his wife moved to Luray, Mo., where his children were born and reared.

He was a highly esteemed member of the L O. O. F. lodge. He first joined the Des Moines lodge at St. Francisville. Later he became a charter member of the Luray lodge, and remained a member of same, until death, which occurred April 17, 1924, at his home in Luray, Mo., aged 87 years, 10 months and 22 days.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and one sister. He is survived by his loving companion, two daughters, Cora and Maude, and one brother Thomas R Hill.

The funeral services were held in the M. P. church at Luray, Mo., in the presence of a large concourse of friends and relatives, conducted by Rev. J. A. Harp. The profusion of flowers which covered the casket, proved in a small way, the high esteem in which he was held by all who knew him

His mortal remains were laid to rest on April 30, at the Luray (Combs) cemetery, there to await the resurrection of the just.

1883 Pensioner's Roll: "Partial paralysis of the left side, and a lumbar abscess."
