GENEALOGY
CLIFFORD "DARRELL"2 DURHAM (Clifford Thomas1) was born September 7, 1941, in Bolivar, Polk County, Missouri, son of Clifford Thomas Durham [1910-1957] and Opal Mae McCrory [1911-1992] Durham. His parents are buried in the Greenwood Cemetery in Bolivar. Darrell never married and was a laborer. He died of an apparent heart attack on the way to the Citizens Memorial Hospital in Bolivar on Christmas eve, December 24, 1991, at age 50. Private graveside services were held on Saturday, December 28, 1991, on the west side of the cemetery. Darrell is using an old tombstone of his father's with the name Clifford T. Durham and with the years 1910-1957 on it. |

RONALD RICHARD2 ALLEN, JR. (Ronald Richard, Sr.1) was born June 28, 1966, in Kansas City, Missouri, son of Ronald Richard and Connie Sue (Mullinex) Allen, Sr. He never married and lived in Lee's Summit, Missouri, where he was employed. He had passed by this cemetery for years going camping and fishing with his parents in the Masters area. He told his parents that he thought this was such a beautiful cemetery especially when the white dogwoods were in bloom, and that this is where he wanted to be buried. Ronald died at age 29 of cancer on Thursday, October 12, 1995, at his parent's home in Pleasant Hill, Cass County, Missouri. MARY ATHALEE2 (HALL) MURRAY (Everett Hall1) was born June 5, 1916, in Springfield, Missouri, daughter of Everett and Emma (Melton) Hall. Her parents were married August 19, 1915, in Springfield. On February 5, 1932, she married JEAN BRIDGES in Springfield. Three children were born to this union. They later divorced. On December 26, 1941, she married IRA PHILLIP MURRAY. Ira [1894-1968] is buried in Maple Park Cemetery in Springfield next to her father. Athalee was a retired healthcare dietician and passed away on Tuesday, March 25, 1997, at age 80, in the Citizens Memorial Hospital in Bolivar, Missouri. Graveside services were held on the west side of the cemetery on Thursday, March 27, 1997. Her infant twins died at birth. Children of Mary A. (Hall) and Jean Bridges:

DAVID MICHAEL2 O'KEEFE (John Edward1) was born August 26, 1955, in Modesto, Stanislaus County, California, son of John Edward and Verna Gertrude (Maskell) O'Keefe. His parents are buried in New Mexico. Dave, as he was called, never married and was a mobile home service employee. His untimely death came on September 7, 1996, at the age of 41, near his home in the Needmore community, Madison Township southwest of Fair Play, Cedar County, Missouri. ALBERT "LEON"2 POYSER
(Dale Albert1) was born May 19, 1918, on the family farm in Wolf Lake,
Indiana, son of Dale Albert and Mary Elizabeth (Lindsay) Poyser. Leon was in
the Merchant Marines for five years. Later, he bought a truck stop outside
of Fort Wayne, Indiana, and turned it into the second largest in the state.
He raised quarter horses, winning 83 grand championships in Halter,
including a world championship, and the 1959 Indiana State Cutting Horse
Champion. On July 11, 1966, he married GENEVA MOTLEY in Lima, Ohio.
Two children were born to this union. They divorced in February 1973.
Leon and children moved to Missouri in 1974, finally settling in 1993 in
Masters, Cedar County. He died at the age of 80 on Sunday, July 12,
1998, in Norwood, Missouri, while visiting a friend. On his beautiful

JAMES "Jim" RICHARD4 HARTLEY (Solomon Underwood3, Richard2, James, Sr.1) was born January 4, 1918, in Masters southwest of Fair Play, Cedar County, Missouri, the seventh and last child of Solomon Underwood "Doc" and Mary Elizabeth (Adams) Hartley. His parents are buried in Row F, but in the old section. On June 14, 1941, he married LORENE ELIZABETH MOORE in Stockton, Missouri. They owned and operated the Masters store for several years, then divorced. He married RUBY JEWELL "NIG" WEAVER, January 1, 1967, in Greenfield, Dade County, Missouri. However, they took out their marriage license in Polk County. Ruby died on February 5, 1982. Jim married ELLA OLIVIA MUDD, October 15, 1982, and divorced November 22 that same year. No children were born to these unions. Jim was a member of the Masonic Lodge. He died at the age of 77 on Tuesday, May 2, 1995, in the Citizens Memorial Hospital in Bolivar, Missouri. |

EVELYN PEARL2 (PONTIUS) LAW (Cleo Pontius1) was born May 5, 1926, in Topeka, Shawnee County, Kansas, daughter of Cleo and Beulah (Dennis) Pontius. She operated a hotel for several years at Arma, Kansas, before moving to Missouri. She had four children, RAYMOND, BARBARA, MARILYN, AND CHERYL. She moved to Needmore southwest of Fair Play, Cedar County, Missouri, where she operated the Needmore Tavern for 26 years. On December 20, 1963, she married HOMER LAVERNE LAW in Coeur D'Alene, Idaho. He passed away July 26, 1990, at the veterans hospital in Spokane, Washington, and is buried in Des Moines, Iowa. FATTIE, as her friends called her, died on Saturday, September 24, 1994, in the Citizens Memorial Health Care Facility in Bolivar, Missouri. |

ROBERT DWANE4
FINDLEY (William Arley3, James Henderson II2, James Henderson I1) was
born August 30, 1924, in Macomb, Missouri, only child of William "Arley"
Findley [1898-1955] and Myrtle Iona Binley [1904-1993] Findley. His
parents are buried in the Macomb Cemetery. At age 18, he enlisted in
the U.S. Army during WWII. While stationed in Maryland, he
participated in chemical warfare, received mustard burn on his chest, and
was in the hospital three months. He married BELVA LEE LYNCH, March
12, 1947, in Visalia, California, and celebrated their 50th anniversary in
March 1997. Belva is the daughter of William "Ethmer" Lynch
[1906-1967] and Ledra Anita (White) Lynch. Her father is buried in
Visalia, California. Bob and Belva moved to Masters in 1985. He
died at age 73 on Thursday, December 4, 1997, of pneumonia, due to mustard
gas exposure and emphysema, in the Citizens Memorial hospital in Bolivar,
Missouri. He has a veteran marker and on his beautiful tombstone: Son of

HENRY E. "H.E."4 HARTLEY (Richard Donathan "Buck"³, Richard², James, Sr.¹) was born May 9, 1892, and died July 27, 1892, at two and one-half months old in Madison Township, Cedar County, Missouri. He was the seventh of fourteen children of Richard Donathan "Buck" Hartley [1857-1945] and Rebecca Maranda "Elizabeth" McCrory, in Polk County, Missouri. ETHEL4 HARTLEY (Richard Donathan "Buck"³, Richard², James, Sr.¹) was born July 23, 1893, and died March 18, 1896, at the age of two years and eight months old of membranous croup, in Madison Township southwest of Fair Play, Cedar County, Missouri. She was the eighth child and fifth daughter of the fourteen children born to Richard Donathan "Buck" Hartley [1857-1945] and Rebecca Maranda Elizabeth McCroy [1859-1939] Hartley. Ethel's brother, V. VIRGIL H. "V.H."4 HARTLEY (Richard Donathan "Buck"³, Richard², James, Sr.¹) was born May 14, 1895, and died March 24, 1896, at ten months old of membranus croup, in Madison Township, Cedar County, Missouri. He was the ninth child and fourth son of Richard Donathan "Buck" Hartley [1857-1945] and Rebecca Maranda Elizabeth McCroy [1859-1939] Hartley. His father was living at the old Cottage Hotel on Main Street in Carthage, Missouri, when he died November 27, 1945, at age 88. His parents are buried in Fasken Cemetery in Carthage. EULALAH FAYE6 THOMPSON (Omer Lee5, Nathaniel Chesterfield "N.C."4, James "Young" William3, Lawson2, James M.1), the first child of four children of Omer Lee and Ruth Bell (Wallen) Thompson, was born about 1911 and died at two and one-half months old. Her parents were married September 3, 1910, in Cedar County, Missouri. Her mother passed away in Phoenix, Arizona, Wednesday, November 21, 1951, at age 56, and is buried there in the Greenwood Cemetery. Her father died September 20, 1966, at age 74, and is buried in Mountain Memorial Cemetery in Yucaipa, California. MARY "GENEVA"3 (LYNCH) WALLEN (William Lynch2, William Lynch, Sr.1) was born December 30, 1873, in Masters, Madison Township, Cedar County, Missouri, the fifth child of William and Ellen Elizabeth (Hartley) Lynch, who are buried in Row A. When she was 15 years old and had the consent of the mother, she married HENRY HALL "H.H.& Harry" WALLEN, August 1, 1889, at her mother's home in Masters. To this union 10 children were born; however, six died at birth. She died in 1908, at age 34 at her home in Masters, from complications of childbirth with their 10th child, who also died at birth. Her husband married LEE ORA WILLIAMS, August 3, 1910. HENRY HALL "H.H."3 WALLEN (Francis Gilbert2, Ebenezer P.1) was born March 22, 1868, in Salem County, New Jersey, the third child of Francis Gilbert "F.G." and Deborah D. (Ernst) Wallen. His parents are buried in Row H. He came to Missouri in about 1872 with his parents and two brothers and lived north of Cane Hill, Cedar County, and later settled in the Masters community, Cedar County, but near the Dade County, Missouri, line. On August 1, 1889, he united in marriage with MARY "GENEVA" LYNCH, who was often called Jenny. She died in 1908 in childbirth at their home in Masters. Harry, as he was often called, married LEE ORA WILLIAMS, August 3, 1910, in Cedar County, He fathered 25 children by his two wives. He died at age 85, Thursday, October 1, 1953, at the Ellis Fischel State Cancer Hospital in Columbia, Missouri. LEE ORA2 WALLEN (Richard
Marion Williams1) was born September 17, 1891, in Aldrich,
Missouri, the daughter of Richard Marion Williams [1848-1943] and Mandelia
Caroline (Box) Williams [1864-1950]. Her parents are buried in Carroll
County, Arkansas. On August 3, 1910, she married HENRY HALL "H.H. &
HARRY" WALLEN in Cedar County, Missouri. They were blessed with
15 children. However, only 11 children lived to adulthood. H.H.
also had four living children by his first wife. He was born March 22,
1868, in Salem County, New Jersey, and died at age 85 on Thursday, October
1, 1953, in the Ellis Fischel State Cancer Hospital in Columbia, Missouri.
LEE ORA lived 17 years after the death of her husband and passed away on
Tuesday, July 13, 1971, in the Dade County Nursing Home in Greenfield,
Missouri, at age 79. She shares a triple tombstone with her husband

NANCY JANE (WARNER) ADAMS was born
about 1830 in Virginia. Her parents are unknown. On July 23,
1845, she married LEVI FRANKLIN ADAMS in Macon County, Tennessee. He
was born July 16, 1824, in Tennessee, the fourth child of John Adams
[1791-1873] and Elizabeth Angeline (Payne) Adams who was born in 1799.
Elizabeth "Nunisa", was the daughter of a white trader named Willis A.
Payne, born in 1769 in North Carolina and a full-blood Cherokee named Quatie
of a North Carolina family born about 1780. NANCY, LEVI, and their
children moved to Missouri where, in 1866, they bought 160 acres in the
Masters community southwest of Fair Play, Missouri, Cedar County. Of Levi's
parent's large family, only his and Nancy's descendants are eligible for
Cherokee tribal membership. Nancy died on January 29, 1889; age
about 60 years is on her tombstone. Levi was a Corporal in Co. M
15th MO Cav. Union Army during the Civil War. He died June 1, 1898, at
age 73. However, because of some hard feelings with the land owner of
the Hartley Cemetery, he was buried in Lindley Prairie Cemetery near Bear

AMANDA WILSON (ADAMS)5 THOMPSON (Levi Franklin Adams4, John Adams3, Elijah Adams2, Solomon Adams1) was born March 1, 1866, in Cedar County, Missouri, the ninth child of the twelve children of Levi Franklin Adams [1824-1898] and Nancy Jane (Warner) Adams. Her mother is buried in this cemetery; however, her father is buried in Lindley Prairie Cemetery near Bear Creek, Cedar County. Amanda married the love of her life, NATHANIEL CHESTERFIELD "N.C. & NAT" THOMPSON, October 1, 1885, at her parent's residence in Masters, Cedar County, Missouri. He was born February 10, 1859, and died January 25, 1937. After the death of her husband, Amanda moved to Lindsay, Tulare County, California, to be closer to her children. She passed away in Lindsay on Saturday, March 16, 1946, at age 80, and was brought back home to Cedar County. NATHANIEL CHESTERFIELD "N.C."4THOMPSON
(James "Young" William3, Lawson2, James M.1)
was born February 10, 1859, in Green Township, Polk County, Missouri, the
ninth child of ten children of James "Young" William [1817-1869] and Eliza
Jane Stevens [1818-1866] Thompson. His parents were married October 8,
1840, in Polk County. they were buried in Hubbard Cemetery, but due to
the Stockton Lake, this cemetery was moved to Vaughn Cemetery in Dade
County, Missouri. Nat, as he was often called, married AMANDA WILSON
ADAMS, October 1, 1885, in Cedar County, Missouri. To this union
fourteen children were born, one dying in infancy. All their children
were born in Cedar County. Nat owned 68 acres in Masters, Madison
Township, Cedar County, 1908, and was a retired farmer. He passed away
at his home on Monday, January 25, 1937, at age 77. Children of N.C. and Amanda (Adams) Thompson:

WILLIAM "LEWIS"5 THOMPSON (Nathaniel Chesterfield4, James "Young" William3, Lawson2, James M.1) was born June 5, 1897, in Masters rural Fair Play, Cedar County, Missouri, the eighth child of fourteen children of Nathaniel Chesterfield "N.C. & Nat" and Amanda Wilson (Adams) Thompson. On February 11, 1922, he married NORA MORGAN, in Polk County, Missouri. However, their marriage license was issued in Cedar County, Missouri. No children were born to this union. They moved to California, and Lewis passed away in a Stockton Hospital on Thursday, November 9, 1933, at the age of 36. THOMPSON (Levi Franklin Adams4, John Adams3, Elijah
Adams2, Solomon Adams1) was born in 1868 in Masters
rural Fair Play, Cedar County, Missouri, the tenth child of twelve children
of Levi Franklin [1824-1898] and Nancy Jane (Warner) Adams. Her mother
is buried in this row; however, her father is buried in Lindley Prairie
Cemetery near Bear Creek, Cedar County. Angie, as she was called,
married YOUNG RICHARD LYONS "Y.R.L." THOMPSON, November 5, 1885, at her
parent's home in Masters. To this union five children were born.
She died February 26, 1895, at the age of 26. She was buried on
Wednesday, February 27, 1895, on the west side of the cemetery. Y.R.L.
[1861-1931] married Emma Ford Reed. They are buried in Pleasant Ridge
Cemetery, located two and one-half miles southwest of Aldrich, Polk County,

WILLIAM2 LYNCH (William, Sr.1 ), the seventh child of the twelve children born to William Lynch, Sr. and Sarah "Sally" Lynch, was born August 3, 1843, in Van Buren County [changed to Cass County, February 19, 1849], and was a twin to Sary Lynch, who died at 3 months old. His mother was born March 1, 1814, and died at age 40, March 29, 1854, 37 days after giving birth to her twelfth child. His father was born September 24, 1810, and died November 20, 1856. It is not known where they are buried. William and his two brothers, Elijah and Robert Lynch, left Missouri with a wagon train headed west for California during the gold rush days. After the frustrations of pioneer travel, William and Elijah turned back and settled in Cedar County. Robert went on with the wagon train and died June 15, 1851, of cholera on the trail. Elijah later settled in Dallas County, Missouri. William was a Pvt. in Co. A. 15th Regt. MO Cav. Volunteers in the Union Army during the Civil War. He got acquainted with Richard "Dick" Hartley and married his daughter, ELLEN ELIZABETH HARTLEY, July 28, 1864. ELLEN ELIZABETH3 (HARTLEY)
LYNCH (Richard Hartley2, James Hartley, Sr.1), the
first child of eleven children of Richard and Almira T. (Underwood) Hartley,
was born November 6, 1848, in Cedar County, Missouri. On July 28,
1864, at her parent's home in Masters, she married WILLIAM LYNCH who was
still in the Union Army stationed in Stockton, Cedar County. Her
husband was born August 3, 1843, and died March 13, 1876, leaving her with
five children. Granny Coon as she was called, never remarried.
She lived her entire life in Cedar County and passed away on Friday, January

SARAH MENDENA3 LYNCH (William2, William, Sr.1) was born August 29, 1865, in Linn Township, Cedar County, Missouri, and died January 11, 1866, at four and one-half months old. She was the first child of six children of William and Ellen (Hartley) Lynch. She is buried next to her parents on the west side of the cemetery. Her tombstone has: Daughter of W. and M. JONAS "WAYMAN"3 LYNCH (William2, William, Sr.1), the third child of six children born to William and Ellen Elizabeth (Hartley) Lynch, was born January 19, 1869, in Linn Township, Cedar County, Missouri. His father died when he was about 7 years old. He never married and lived with his mother and helped her on the farm in Masters rural Fair Play, Cedar County, Missouri. One day a lady came through the gate and left it open. Some mules got out, so he jumped on his horse and was tying to put them back into the field. His horse ran into a rail fence and he fell off. A piece of wood from the fence went into his neck and he died of lockjaw at age 24, Saturday, December 23, 1893. His tombstone has: Son of WILLIAM & ELLEN E. |
