Note: Births and deaths were not recorded in Missouri until 1910, although for the period 1883-1893 county clerks were required to register births and deaths and some counties kept these records for other years. Any of these records that are still available should be obtained from the county in which the birth or death occurred or from Records Management and Archives Service, 1001 Industrial drive, POB 778, Jefferson City, Missouri 65101.
Taken from an article published in the Bolivar Herald-Free Press Newspaper, September 11, 1996. Computerized copies of birth and death records can be obtained at "local" county health centers. This only includes certifications for people born in MO from 1928 to present or whose death certificate was filed in MO between 1980 and the present. The fee of $10.00 per certificate is set by state law. According to Neita Campbell, administrator of the Polk County Center, these records are available as a computerized copy. Because of the MO Department of Health's new computer system, these may be obtained at your local county health center.
