Armstrong Cemetery
Armstrong Cemetery
The following information was submitted by Jim Vandergriff:
The Armstrong Cemetery is located just off of Highway T. From MO
Highway 7, go toward Stoutland on T. Take the second (I think) gravel
road to the left. (This road used to go past the Independence School,
though that building is now gone. However, this is the road that
continues on into Stoutland.) The Cemetery is on Ozark Fisheries
property. With permission, one enters the first cattle gate on the
left and follows the farm path about 1/4 mile. The cemetery is a
fenced 40' by 40' enclosure just behind the Hatchery barn. The cemetery
is sort of maintained by Armstrong descendants, thanks to the
cooperation of the Hatchery owners.
The following persons are buried there, though I'm not certain the
tombstones are actually set at the grave sites. Also, family legend
says there is an infant (unrelated to the family) buried there. The
story says that a family was passing by, stopped at the Armstrong house
because the child was too ill to travel. It died and was buried there,
then the family moved on. I don't know if the story is true, but
Elizabet Armstrong told it to me as an event she remembered from her
childhood.
