MARY HARRIET LUTHER WEST - 8/2/1876 TO 11/25/1941
Daughter of William and Mary Catherine Emery, was born August
2, 1876 at Bedford, Indiana and passed away at her home in
Richmond, Missouri the 25th day of November 1941 at the age of
65 years, 3 months, and 23 days.
When but a small child she moved with her parents to Kingston,
Missouri. On September 2, 1894, she married Arthur Adrian
Luther 9/2/1894 and one son William Brown Luther was born
7/8/1895. On December 19, 1898 she was married to Alfred West
who survives. She was the mother of 11 children. Three
preceded her in death. Surviving are 5 sons and 3 daughters.
William Luther of Kidder, Missouri. Roscoe West of Kansas
City, Missouri. Robert and Ralph West of Richmond and Orville
West of the home; Mrs. Robert Butler of Richmond, Mrs. Harlow
Yoakum of Rayville and Mrs. Glen Estes of Richmond; two
sisters Mrs. Jennie Palmer of Anaheim, California, Mrs. Flora
Cline of Charity, Missouri; three brothers, Ben Emery of
Kingston, John Emery of Polo, and Homer Emery of Excelsior
Springs; 15 grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.
At an early age she joined the Christian Union Church of
Bonanza, Missouri, remaining faithful to the end.

ALFRED WEST - 3/20/1874 TO 1/5/1942
Alfred West of Taitsville passed away yesterday January 5,
1942. Mr. West was born March 20, 1874, the son of Thomas J.
West and Susan Jane Myers West. Mr. West is survived by five
sons, Bill Luther, step son, Henry West; Robert West; Ralph
West and Orville West; four daughters, Flora Bell, Grace May,
Wonhetta, and Maggie Louise.
Services were at the Reed Funeral Home in Cowgill, with burial
in the Petty Cemetery, Polo, Missouri.

WILLIAM BROWN LUTHER - 7/8/1895 TO 2/22/1965
Memorial services for William Brown Luther, 69, of Hamilton,
will be held this Thursday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock at the
Bram Chapel at Hamilton. Burial will be in the Kingston
cemetery.
Mr. Luther died unexpectedly Monday afternoon of a heart
attack at the home. He and Mrs. Luther were returning to the
house from a nearby barn after doing some chores when he was
stricken.
He was a half brother of Orville West, Mrs. Harlow Yoakum,
Mrs. Glen Estes, Mr. J. O. Swafford, Robert West and Roscoe
West, all of Richmond area.
Other survivors include the widow, Mrs. Ruth Luther of the
home; five sons, J. W. Luther of Hamilton, Arthur Luther of
McCook, Nebraska, Jack Luther of Kansas City, Jim Luther
member of the Armed Services in Germany and Virgil Luther of
California. Three daughters, Mrs. Betty Bowers of Fort Dix,
NJ., Norma Ray of Kansas City and Mrs. Juanita Dortch of
California and 15 grandchildren.

FLORA BELL WEST BUTLER - 2/14/1900 TO 10/16/1984
Mrs. Flora B. Butler, 84, Richmond, died Tuesday at a hospital
here. She was born in Ray county, Missouri, February 14, 1900
and had lived in Knoxville, Missouri most of her live before
she moved to Richmond in 1977. Mrs. Butler was a member of
Saint Paul Christian Church, near Knoxville. She leaves a son
Estel Buter, Knoxville, three daughters, Mrs. Zelma Kinder,
Carrollton, Missouri; Mrs. Thelma Knutter, Warsaw, Missouri,
and Mrs. Ethel Teegarden, Knoxville; two brothers, Robert,
Orville and two sisters, Mrs. Grace Yoakum and Mrs. Maggie
Estes all of Richmond; nine grandchildren and seven great
grandchildren. Services will be at 1:30pm Friday at the
Thurman Chapel, Richmond; burial in the Knoxville cemetery.
Friends may call from 7-8pm today at the chapel. The family
suggests contributions to the church memorial fund.

RAYMOND F. RUSSELL - 7/28/1917 to 4/12/1956
Funeral services for Raymond F. Russell, 38 year old Knoxville
farmer, were held at 2pm today at the Saint Paul Chapel east
of Knoxville.
The Reverend Edwin Shelton, Kansas City, officiated. Burial
was in the Knoxville cemetery.
Russell was killed instantly Wednesday morning when a tractor
overturned, pinning him beneath it. He was plowing a field on
the Herbert Hauser farm one mile north of Knoxville.
On January 14, 1939, he was married to Ethel Maude Butler,
Knoxville who survives.
He is survived by a daughter, Linda; three brothers, Harrison
Russell, California, Clarence Russell, Saint Louis, Cecil
Russell of Marceline, Missouri and one sister, Mrs. Opal Payne
of California

ESTEL LELAND BUTLER - 2/27/1921 TO 5/12/1997
Estel Butler, 76, of the Knoxville community, died at 12:25pm,
Monday, May 12, 1997 at Ray county Memorial Hospital in
Richmond.
Mr. Butler was born February 27, 1921, in Ray county to Robert
W. and Flora B. West Butler, who preceded him in death. He
married Temple May Joiner, of Richmond, on September 3, 1947.
She survives of the home.
He was a retired farmer and truck driver. He was formerly
employed at the Lake City arsenal plant. He had lived most of
his life in the Knoxville area. He was a U.S. Army, veteran,
having served during peacetime.
Other survivors include one son, Jack Edwin Butler, Orrick;
two daughters, Janet Tippit, Lathrop, and Jo Ellen Butler,
Richmond; three sisters, Ethel Maud Teegarden, Knoxville and
Zelma Kinder and Thelma Knuffer both of Warsaw, three
grandchildren, Michael E. Marrant, Kevin D. Marrant and Chris
Butler; one uncle, Lonnie Butler, two aunts, Pinnie Morrison
and Maggie Estes both of Richmond; and several cousins.

HENRY ROSCOE WEST - 2/9/1902 TO 6/22/1974
Robert E. West, 86, of Richmond, died at 11:20am Wednesday,
July 8, 1992, at the Ray county Memorial Hospital in Richmond.
Mr. West was born July 29, 1905, in Taitsville, Missouri to
Alfred and Mary Harriet "Hattie" Emery West. He married Lucy
Ann Lay on August 1, 1930. He later married Charlene Bryant
Moyer of Millville in January of 1969; she survives at the
home.
Mr. West was a retired farmer. He was a Protestant. He had
lived a few years in Kansas City before returning to Ray
county.
He was preceded in death by three brothers Bill Luther, Roscoe
West and Ralph West; four sisters, Flora Butler and three who
died in infancy.
Other survivors include one brother Orville West of Richmond;
two sisters, Maggie Esles and Grace Yoakum, both of Richmond,
and he is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Friday, July 10, at 1:30pm at the
Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond. The Reverend Kathy Morrison
will officiate. Visitation will be to night from 7-8 pm at
Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond. Burial will be at Richmond
Memory Gardens. Pallbearers: Dennis Estes, Gary Estes, Donald
Ray Yoakum, Everett Teegarden and Chris Berry.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the
American Heart Association or the American Lung Association.

GRACE MAE WEST YOAKUM - 11/25/1907 TO 6/8/1993
Grace M. Yoakum, 85, of Richmond, died at 7:35pm at Tuesday,
June 8, 1993, at Shirkey Leisure Acres Nursing Home.
Mrs. Yaokum was born November 25, 1907, in Ray county, to
Alfred and Mary Harriet "Hattie" (Emery) West. She married
Millard Harlow Yoakum on December 1, 1928, he preceded her in
death on July 5, 1972.
She was a lifetime Ray County resident and member of the
Richmond Christian Union Church and the Order of the Eastern
Star, Richmond Chapter #255.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in
death by three brothers, Roscoe, Ralph, and Robert West and a
half brother Bill Luther and four sisters. Flora Butler and
three that died in infancy.
Survivors include two sons, Donald Ray Yoakum of Osceola and
Robert P. Yoakum of Liberty, a daughter, Alta Ferm Still of
Richmond; a brother Orville West of Richmond; a sister, Maggie
Estes of Richmond; and three grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 7pm Thursday at Thurman Funeral Home,
Richmond. Funeral services are at 10:30am Friday, July 11, at
Thurman Funeral Home with Reverend Don Crowley officiating.
Burial is at Kincaid Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Josh Yoakum, Doug Yoakum, Dennis Estes, Gary
Estes, Dean Prewitt and Keith Proffitt.

Robert P Yoakum, 52, Liberty, Missouri, formerly of Richmond,
Missouri, died at 10:22am Monday, January 6, 1997, at the
Liberty Hospital, Liberty, Missouri. Funeral services will at
1:30pm Thursday, January 9, at the Thurman Funeral Home,
Richmond, Missouri; burial in South Point Cemetery, Orrick,
Missouri, where military graveside services will be held.
Visitation will be 7-8pm Wednesday, January 8, at the Thurman
Funeral Home, Richmond. The family suggests memorial
contributions be made to the Robert P. Yoakum Memorial fund,
in care of the Thurman Funeral Home, Richmond, Missouri.
Mr. Yoakum was born October 13, 1944, in Knoxville, Missouri
to Millard Harlow and Grace M. West Yoakum. He married Mary
Lynn Middleton of Camden, Missouri, September 1, 1973; she
survives of the home. Other survivors include one son, Douglas
R. Yoakum; of the home; one daughter, Marcie A. Yoakum of the
home; one brother, Donald Ray Yoakum, Osceola, Missouri; one
sister, Fern Still, Richmond, Missouri; and one granddaughter,
Elle Yoakum, Saint Petersburg, Florida, in addition to his
parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Joshua M.
Yoakum. Mr. Yoakum owned and operated Quick Silver Trucking,
Inc. for 25 years before retiring. He was a 1962 Richmond High
School graduate. He had lived in Knoxville, Richmond and
Liberty, Missouri. He played semi-pro football for the Kansas
City Steers. He had coached little league football for 14
years. He was a member of the Christian Union Church in
Richmond, Virginia. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam
War.

RALPH ALFRED WEST - 12/11/1911 TO 6/1/1947
Services for Ralph Alfred West, who was fatally burned at the
Phillips 66 station, 13th and Franklin Streets, in Lexington
on Thursday night, May 29, in a gas station explosion, were
held Sunday afternoon, June 1, 1947, at 2:30pm at the First
Baptist Church of Richmond.
Mr. West died in the Saint Joseph hospital in Kansas City
Friday morning at 9:00am where he had been taken for
treatment.
He was born December 11, 1911, in Knoxville, the son of the
late Alfred and Mary Harriet Emery Luther West. He had lived
his entire life in Ray county, until 10 months ago, when he
moved to Lexington.
He was married to Alvena Shumate December 25, 1927.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Kay Francis, three
brothers, Roscoe of Kansas City, Missouri, Robert and Orville
of Richmond, three sisters, Mrs. Flora Butler, Mrs. Grace
Yoakum, Mrs. Maggie Estes, all of Knoxville, one half brother,
William B. Luther of Hamilton.
Burial was in the Sunny Slope cemetery with Reverend James
Heath of Hamilton officiating, and the Quest-Life Funeral Home
in charge.

ORVILLE PEARL WEST - 12/14/1915 TO 8/20/1996
Orville P. West, 80, of Richmond, Missouri, died at 2:20pm,
Tuesday, August 20, 1996, at the Ray county memorial hospital
in Richmond. Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm Friday,
August 23, at Thurman Funeral Home, Richmond. Military
graveside services will follow at Sunny Slope Cemetery,
Richmond. Conducted by the Ray county Veterans. Visitation
will be 7-8pm Thursday, at the Thurman Funeral Home, Richmond,
Missouri. Mr. West was born December 14, 1915, in Taitsville,
Missouri, to Alfred and Harriet (Emery) West. He married
Jessie M. Davidson of Richmond, on April 12, 1947; she
survives of the home.
Other survivors include one sister, Maggie Estes of Richmond;
and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one son
who died in infancy. Charles Dean West; four brothers, Robert,
Ralph, Roscoe West and Bill Luther. Two sisters, Grace Yoakum
and Flora Butler.
Mr. West worked in the Maintenance Department at the VA
Hospital in Excelsior Springs and Kansas City, Missouri. He
then served as Commissioner of the Richmond Water Department.
He worked in the Maintenance Department for the Richmond
School District before retiring.
He was a member of the Saint Paul's Christian Union Church. He
also was a member of the Richmond V. W. W., Richmond American
Legion and Disabled American Veterans. Mr. West was a US Army
Veteran of WWII.

JACOB GLEN ESTES - 8/25/1915 TO 6/21/1980
Funeral services were scheduled for 1:30pm today at Saint
Paul's Christian Union Church near Knoxville for Glen Estes,
64, 160 south Institute, Richmond. Mr. Estes died June 21,
1980 at Ray County Memorial Hospital following a lengthy
illness.
He was born August 25, 1915 in Ray County, a son of N.B. and
Florence Gentry Estes. He was married to Maggie West of Ray
County on August 31, 1939. She survives of the home.
Mr. Estes had been a farmer and had worked for the Missouri
State Highway Department. He retired six years ago. He was a
member of the Church and a lifelong resident of Ray county.
He is survived by two sons, Gary Estes and Dennis Estes, of
Richmond; one daughter, Mrs. Glenda Prewitt, Excelsior
Springs; four sisters, Mrs. Anna Hendrix, Mrs. Noah Johnson,
both of Richmond, Mrs. Dorothy Hilton, Kansas City and Mrs.
Colene McFall, Polo; and one granddaughter, Amy Estes,
Richmond. Four brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.
Reverend Norman Goodman officiated at the funeral services
toady. Burial was in Richmond Memory Gardens with Wilbur
Estes, Norman Estes, Melvin Hendrix, Milo Hendrix, Lindell
Forson, Billy Johnson, Clarence Dothagy and Jim McFall serving
as pallbearers.

Prospect St., may be viewed Friday from 9-12 a.m. at the Day
Mortuary. A private burial will be held. Mr. Emery died
Wednesday, May 11, at the Larimer County Hospital. He has been
ill about 2 months. Kingston Paper: Funeral Here Sunday.
Funeral services were held from the Kingston Christian Church,
Sunday afternoon for Jonas Emery, who died 5/11/1938 in Fort
Collins, Colorado.
The Hope Funeral Service of Excelsior Springs drove through
after the body. Mrs. Hope is a niece of the deceased. Mr.
Emery is a former resident of this community and the son of
Mary Emery, East of Kingston.

JENNIE EMERY HUGHES PALMER - 2/15/1880 TO 8/9/1967
Mrs. Jennie Palmer, 87, a native of Missouri but a resident of
Anaheim 35 years, died Wednesday, August 9th, 1967 at a local
hospital. She lived at 124 Harding Street. Mrs. Palmer was
born February 15, 1880 in Pettis county, Missouri.
Surviving her are a daughter, Mrs. Frank Thompson, San
Francisco; two sons, William Hughes, Fullerton, and Theodore
Hughes, Anaheim; a brother, Homer Emery, Nebraska, seven
grandchildren and six great great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 2:00pm in
Hilgenfeld Mortuary Chapel, 120 E. Broadway, Anaheim, by the
Revered Walter F. Dunn. Interment will be in the family plot
in Melrose Abbey Memorial Park.

LON M. HUGHES - 4/7/1903 TO 7/23/1959
Funeral services for Lon M. Hughes, well known San Francisco
public relations consultant and former financial editor of the
Examiner, will be conducted at 1:00pm Monday at the N. Gray
& Company chapel, Post and Division Street.
The rites will be followed by internment at the Golden Gate
National Cemetery. Mr. Hughes served with the 7th Fleet in
World War II as a Commander. He was awarded the Bronze star
for meritorious service with the 7th Fleet. He died late
Wednesday night, July 23, 1959 of a heart attack at his home,
2443 Gough Street, he was 56.
At the age of 16, Mr. Hughes, joined the US Navy and served as
a wireless operator. Among his Ports of Call were Yokohoma,
Japan during the earthquake. Shanghai, China at the time of
the Boxer uprising.
In recent years, Mr. Hughes owned and operated the Hughes
Organization, a public relations firm at 376 Sutter Street. He
began his career in the newspaper business in 1925 as an
office boy on the San Francisco bulletin. He was Assistant
Financial Editor when the Bulletin was merged with the Call.
In 1929, Mr. Hughes joined the Wall Street Journal and became
its city editor in 1932. At the same time he began a daily
financial radio network program with the National Broadcasting
company. He was appointed Financial Editor of the Examiner in
1933, a position he held until he went into business for
himself in 1947.
Mr. Hughes' wife Charlotte, died in 1957. He leaves 2 sons,
Timothy, 12, and Lon Kennedy, 7. Mr. Hughes is also survived
by his mother, Mrs. Jennie Palmer, 3 brothers, Theodore,
William and Ray Hughes, all of Anaheim, 2 sisters, Mrs. Velma
Thompson, and Mrs. Lillie Lindahl.

EMERY HUGHES - 7/15/1911 TO 3/20/1916
Emery Hughes Burned to Death
Emery Hughes, the 4 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Pierce Hughes
of Polo, was seriously burned Thursday of last week and died
last Monday. Little Emery has been staying at the home of his
grandmother, Mary C. Emery about 2 1/2 miles south of Bonanza
for some time.
Last Thursday, his uncle, B. F. Emery, was out in the field
burning grass with little Emery along. His uncle placed the
child in the wagon and went a few steps away to light another
fire. He heard the child calling him and turned to see the
little fellows clothes on fire. He ran to him and tried to
smother the flames with his coat. The child's lower limbs were
badly burned. He lost consciousness and only revived at short
intervals. Funeral services were held from the home of Mrs.
Mary C. Emery. Burial at Kingston Cemetery.
Our Father hath called a loved one home. To sit beside him on
the throne. From our midst little Emery was taken. But out
farther is not shaken for well we know. That bye and bye we
shall meet him in the sky.

ANNA ESTELLA EMERY ELLIOTT - 1/12/1882 TO 1/29/1940
Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at one o'clock
at the Michael Funeral Home in Braymer for Mrs. Wilbur
Elliott, who passed away Monday, January 29th at the Wesley
Hospital in Kansas City. Referend Solmes, was in charge, and
burial was made at the New Hope Cemetery.
Anna Estella Emery was born January 12, 1882, near Bonanza,
Caldwell county, Missouri. The daughter of William Ambrose and
Mary Catherine (Frazier) Emery. She passed away at the Wesley
Hospital in Kansas City, Monday January 29th, 1940.
On December 25, 1902 she was united in marriage to Wilbur C.
Elliott at the old home. The ceremony was read by Reverend
C.A.B. Watson. At the age of 11 she was converted and united
with the Brethren Church at Hazel View. In later years she
transferred her membership to the Assembly of God Church in
Chillicothe. To this union were born 7 children, 4 boys and 3
girls. The eldest, Ethel May, departed this life on January 1,
1906, at the age of 2 years.
There are left to mourn the departure of this wife and mother,
her husband, Wilbur C. Elliott of near Breckenridge; J. W.
Elliott of Dawn; Frank and Eula of Hamilton; Chester, Lela,
and Emery of the home. Mrs. Elliorr also leaves 3 brothers,
John Emery of Polo; Homer Emery of Excelsior Springs and Ben
Emery of Kingston; 3 sisters, Jennie Palmer of Anaheim, CA.;
Hattie West of Richmond; Flora Lester of Jerico Springs,
Missouri, also 2 grandsons, four granddaughters and a number
of nieces and nephews and a host of neighbors and friends.

illness and death of our wife and mother. Also for the
comforting words of Reverend Solmes, and the beautiful floral

WILBUR C. ELLIOTT - 10/28/1979 TGO 4/18/1964
Wilbur C. Elliott succumbed to illness at a Saint Joseph
Hospital, Saturday, April 18, 1964, at the age of 84 years,
six months and ten days. He had been in failing health for
several years and seriously ill for the past few weeks. He was
admitted to the hospital Tuesday of last week, after being
cared for at the home of Mrs. Bill Howell, for about six
weeks. Wilber G. Elliott was the son of John O. and Nancy
Holder Elliott was born October 28, 1879, in Jasper county. As
a young man he was married to Anna Esttla Emery, December 25,
1902 and 7 children were born to this union. The eldest Ethal
May, departed this life January 1, 1906 at the age of 2 years.
He was preceded in death by his wife Estella on January 29,
1940.
In May 1947, he was married to Minnie Moorshead Curnow of
Breckenridge who preceded him in death October 23,1959.
Mr. Elliott was a retired farmer. He had resided in
Breckenridge the past six years. He was a member of the
Assembly of God Church.
Survivors include four sons, J. W. of Polo, Frank of
Nettleton, Chester of Cameron and Emery of Saint Joseph. Two
daughters Mrs. Eula Saip of Hamilton and Mrs. Lela Snider of
Braymer; 11 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, 2 nieces
and 1 nephew.
Reverend Donald Crawford conducted the funeral services
Tuesday afternoon at the Assembly of God Church. Burial was in
the New Hope Cemetery.

WILBUR FRANKLIN ELLIOTT - 4/30/1907 TO 4/10/1972
Wilbur Franklin Elliott, 64, of near Hamilton, who had been in
ill health for several years and a wheelchair invalid since
June of 1971, died in a Caldwell county ambulance at
Boonville, April 10, while in route to the MU Medical Center
in Columbia.
A son of Wilbur and Anna Estella Elliott, he was born in
Bonanza community southeast of Kingston and was a farmer until
his health failed.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Christina Elliott, of the
home; 2 sons, Charles and Ray Dean of Kansas City; 1 daughter,
Mrs. Maxine Bell of Basehor, Kansas; 3 brothers, J. W. Elliott
of Polo, Chester Elliott of Cameron and Emery of Breckenridge;
and 5 grandchildren.
The funeral service was Wednesday at 2:30pm at the Assembly of
God Church in Hamilton conducted by Revered John Mepplelink of
Cameron. Internment was in Highland Cemetery under the
direction of Bram.

CHRISTINA BRELSFORD ELLIOTT - 5/17/1913 TO 11/24/1994
Christina Elliott, 81, Hamilton, Missouri, died on Tuesday,
November 22, 1994, at a Kansas City, Kansas hospital.
Mrs. Elliott, was born near Elmira, Missouri, May 17, 1913,
and had lived in Nettleton, Missouri for past 50 years. She
had been a homemaker and was a member of the Assembly of God
Church.
Mrs. Elliott was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbur C.,
in 1972. Surviving are 2 sons, Charles of Kansas City,
Missouri, and Ray Dean of Ponca city, OK; a daughter, Lena M.
Bell of Basehor, KS; a brother, Raymond Brelsford of Lathrop,
Missouri; a sister, Viola Woods of Richmond, Missouri; 7
grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
The funeral was held on November 26, at Bram Funeral Home with
burial in Highland Cemetery.

Deborah Tayler Elliott, 43, of Ponca City, OK., died
Wednesday, March 23, at Saint Joseph, Medical Center, Ponca
City.
She was born December 25, 1950, in Worchester, Massachusetts,
the daughter of Benjamin and Grace Taylor.
In October, 1969, she married Ray Elliott in Kansas City. Mrs.
Elliott had lived in Kansas City before moving to Ponca City,
OK. She was preceded in death by her grandparents.
Surviving are her husband, Ray Elliott, and 2 sons, Aaron and
Raymond Elliott, all of the home; her parents, Ben and Grace
Taylor, Harrisonville; 3 brothers, Benjamin Taylor, Taveriner,
Florida; Keith Taylor, Gladstone; and Logan Taylor,
Harrisonville; a sister, Joyce Burton, Harrisonville.
Graveside prayer services will be at 2:00pm Saturday, April 9,
in the Orient Cemetery, Harrisonville.

RETHA BLANCH BRELSFORD ELLIOTT - 8/30/1909 to 7/22/1981
Retha Blanch Elliott, 71, was born August 30, 1909, on a farm
north of Elmira, Missouri and died July 22, 1981, at Saint
Lukes Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri.
She was the oldest daughter of Joseph and Cedia Sweatman
Brelsford. She attended Mound School. Retha joined the Baptist
Church early in life and was an active member at the time of
her death.
Retha was united in marriage to J. W. Elliott on March 28,
1924. To this union for children were born.
Surviving is her husband, J. W. of the home at Polo; one son,
Joe Elliott, Independence; 3 daughters, Colene Clark,
Hamilton; Luette McFall, Polo; Rita Louise Fell, Cowgill; 2
sisters, Christina Elliott, Hamilton, Viola McLallen,
Richmond; 2 brothers, Milton Brelsford, Cameron, and Raymond
Brelsford, Lathrop; 11 grandchildren and 2 great
grandchildren. The funeral service was held Saturday, July 25,
at 1:30pm in the Cowgill Baptist Church with Reverend Alvin
McGill and Rev. Joe Porter officiating. Burial was in the
Prairie Ridge Cemetery near Polo.

BILLIE MARGARET TABLOR ELLIOTT - 2/24/1930 TO 9/14/1989
Billie M. Elliott, 59, Cameron, Missouri, formerly of
Independence, died September 14, 1989, at Baptist Medical
Center. She was born in Henrietta in Ray county and lived in
Hardin, Missouri, before moving to Independence more than 30
years ago. She moved to Cameron two months ago. Mrs. Elliott
was a member of the Stone Church congregation of the RLDS
church.
Survivors include her husband, Joseph Elliott of the home, a
son, Terry J. Elliott, Cameron; 3 brothers, William Dove and
Gene Dove of Cameron and Dale Dove, North Kansas City; 2
sisters, Bonnie Slinger, Grandview and Nellie Wyatt, Kansas
City, KS; 2 granddaughters. Services will be at 1:30pm Monday
at the Thurman Chapel, Richmond; burial in Richmond Memory
Gardens Cemetery. Friends may call from 7-8pm Sunday at the
Chapel. The family suggests contributions to the American
Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association.

WAYNE EDWIN FEIL - 3/8/1929 to 7/28/1998
Wayne Edwin Feil, age 69, of Cowgill, Missouri and had lived
in the Braymer and Cowgill areas all of his life. He was
united in marriage to Rita Elliott on March 17, 1952 in
Cowgill. She survives of the home.
Wayne was a farmer and a member of the Immaculate Conception
Catholic Church in Richmond. He was a graduate of Braymer High
School.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Ida Mae
Feil, and one sister, Mary Louise Pickering.
He is also survived by four sons, Edwin of Warsaw, John of
Braymer, and Leonard and James of Cowgill. One daughter,
Theresa Feil, of Warrensburg, and three grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 10:30am Friday, July 31, at the
Black Oak Church near Braymer. Burial will be in the Evergreen
Cemetery at Braymer. Friends may call Thursday night from
7-8pm at the Bailey Funeral Home in Polo.

Joseph Henry Snider, 81, died July 24, 1990, in a nursing home
in Braymer, where he lived. He was born in Camden, Missouri
and lived in Breckenridge, Missouri before moving to rural
Braymer in 1942. Mr. Snider was a retired farmer. Survivors
include his wife Lela Elliott Snider, rural Braymer; 2
daughters, Joanna Moore, Orrick, in Ray county, and Charlotte
Soper, Milford, NE.; 3 sisters, Tina Head, Richland; Bertha
Shultz, Chanute, KS., and Carrie Garst, Braymer; and 5
grandchildren. Services will be at 2:00pm Saturday at the
Pitts Chapel, Braymer; burial in the Evergreen Cemetery,

James Chesterfield Elliott, 65, died Monday evening, May 22,
at the Cameron Community Hospital. Born October 7, 1912, near
Bonanza, he had been employed as a laborer in Cameron until
his retirement. He was preceded in death by his wife, Luena
Elliott.
Survivors include 2 sisters, Eula Saip of Cameron, and Lela
Snider of Breckenridge, and 2 brothers, J. W. Elliott of Polo
and Emery Elliott of Saint Joseph.
The funeral was held Friday at Poland Thompson Funeral Home in
Cameron, with Reverend John Mepplelink officiating. Burial was
in Cameron Memory Gardens.

EDWARD HENRY SAIP - 7/26/1896 to 2/21/1985
Edward Henry Saip, 83, Cameron, died Thursday at a hospital in
Cameron. He was born July 26, 1896, at Munden, Kansas, and had
moved to Cameron 20 years ago. Mr. Saip was a dispatcher for
the Consolidated Freight Company eight years before retiring.
Earlier, he was a gas station attendant in Hamilton, Missouri
for 23 years. He was a member of the Hamilton Methodist
Church.
He leaves his wife Mrs. Eula Saip of the home; a son Jack
Saip, San Francisco; a daughter, Mrs. Mary Ann Hahn, Cameron;
2 sisters, Mrs. Francis Longwell, Belleville, Kansas and Mrs.
Ella McChesney, Narka, Kansas; 8 grandchildren. Services will
be at 2:00pm Monday at the Poland Thompson Chapel, Cameron.
Burial in the Cameron Memory Gardens.

Elma Etoyle Bruns Elliott, 82, of Polo, Missouri, died at
10:41pm, Sunday, August 24, 1997, at the Ray County Memorial
Hospital in Richmond, Missouri.
Mrs. Elliott was born October 27, 1914, near Orrick, Missouri,
to Chester Lee and Velma Caldwell Boyer McGinnis. She married
Emil E. Bruns of Ray County on October 22, 1936; he preceded
her in death on October 30, 1982. She later married J. W.
Elliott of Polo, Missouri, on August 14, 1985; he survives of
the home.
Other survivors include one step-son, Joe Elliott of Hamilton,
Missouri, 3 step-daughters, Colene Clark and Luetta McFall of
Hamilton and Louise Feil of Cowgill, Missouri; 2 brothers,
Wayne McGinnis of Independence, Missouri and Bobby G. McGinnis
of Lebanon, Missouri, 1 sister, Edith Bellis of Camdenton,
Missouri; 10 step-grandchildren and 8 step great
grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and first husband she was preceded
in death by one brother, Woodrow McGinnis; 1 sister, Imogene
Bruns.
Mrs. Elliott was a member of the Cowgill Baptist Church in
Cowgill, Missouri. She lived near Richmond, Missouri, in the
Lillard community before moving to Polo, Missouri.

WALLACE A. EMERY - 6/4/1885 TO 4/11/1922
Wallace A. Emery, b: 6/4/1885, d: 4/11/1922. It is believed
that Wallace died in Excelsior Springs, Missouri. The
Excelsior Springs papers of 1921 and 1922 have vanished. Very
little is know about Wallace's family other than his wife Edna
McLaughlin and son, Clyde. It is believed that Clyde married
and had a son, Donald Emery. Wallace is buried in Kingston
Cemetery.

OLIVE C. EMERY SADLER - 1/?/1887 to 3/?/1906
Olive C. Emery, b: 1/?/1887, d: 3/?/1906. We have been unable
to locate an obituary for Olive. She married Charley Sadler
January 1, 1906. We understand that Olive waded snow in March
to care for her mother, caught pneumonia and passed away.
Information that the same minister (Revered Shilling of
Kingston) baptized, married her, and preached her funeral all
in the space of a few months. No record is available of where
she is buried.

BENJAMIN FRANKLIN EMERY - 8/8/1888 to 9/22/1958
Ben Emery, 70, died at his home Southeast of Kingston, Monday
morning September 22, 1958, after a long illness. His
daughter, Mrs. Dean Barnad, Mr. Barnard, and children resided
with him.
Benjamin Franklin Emery, son of William A. and Mary Katherine
Emery, was born August 8, 1888, near Kingston and died
September 22, 1958 at his home after a long illness being at
the time of his death 70 years, 1 month and 14 days. Most of
his life was spent in Caldwell county where he was engaged in
farming. Early in life he united with the Christian Union
Church at Bonanza.
December 5, 1918, he was married to Myrtle Coshow and to this
union 5 children were born; Beryl Franklin Emery, of Kansas
City; Walter Harley Emery, deceased; Katherine Mayes of
Kingston; Nelda Bassett of Stewartsville; and Opal Barnard of
Kingston.
Also surviving are 4 grandsons, 5 granddaughters, 2
granddaughters died in infancy; 1 brother, Homer Emery of
Ogallala, NE; and 1 sister, Mrs. Jennie Palmer, of Anaheim,
CA.
June 27, 1940 Mrs. Emery died leaving the 5 children for him
to rear. 2 years later, in 1943, a son, Harley Emery died.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 at the
Christian Church conducted by Reverend Zada Jones. Burial was
in the Kingston Cemetery under the direction of Clark Funeral
Service.

MYRTLE MAE COSHOW EMERY - 5/22/1891 TO 6/27/1940
Myrtle Mae Coshow Emery, daughter of Frank and Emma Coshow,
was born May 22, 1891 in Kingston, and passed away in the
Trinity Lutheran Hospital in Kansas City, June 27, 1940 at the
age of 49 years, 1 month, and 3 days.
She grew to womanhood in the vicinity of her birthplace, a
generous and friendly young girl, who married in her youth to
Benjamin Emery on December 5, 1918. To this union 5 children
were born. Namely beryl Franklin, Walter Harley, Emma
Katherine, Nelda Mae, and Opal Irene, all of the home that
survives. Besides her husband, she leaves to mourn her
passing, her mother and 2 brothers, John Franklin Coshow and
Walter Robert Coshow of Kingston. Her father preceded her in
death 2 years ago.
Mrtle was converted and united in the Christian faith during
her girlhood days and continued in her faith throughout her
short stay where her presence will be sadly missed in her
home, in her community and by her many friends.
Everything was done to keep her on our midst that loving hands
could do, but God knew best. She was an affectionate wife, a
kind and loving mother and generous good neighbor.
Funeral services were held from the Kingston Christian Church,
Saturday afternoon, June 29, conducted by the Reverend W. E.
Barksdale. Burial was in the Kingston cemetery, in charge of
the Clark Funeral Home.

BERYL FRANKLIN EMERY - 3/21/1921 to 8/28/1995
Beryl Franklin Emery was born March 21, 1921, near Kingston,
Missouri, the son of Benjamin Franklin and Myrtle Mae Coshow
Emery. Beryl passed away unexpectedly August 28 at his home in
Kansas City. He was 74 years old. He had lived in Kansas City
since 1945. He was a graduate of Cowgill Missouri High School.
Beryl had retired from Clark Oil Company in Kansas City after
45 years. He was a veteran of the Navy twice, a member of Duck
Unlimited. At the present time he owned Emery's used store at
55th and Troost in Kansas City. He was a member of the
Tabernacle Baptist Church at 27th and Holmes.
Beryl was married to Wilma Margaret "Polly" Brown of Orrick,
on November 12, 1949. She preceded on May 3, 1977. He is
survived by his son and daughter in law, Benny Beryl and
Sharon Emery of Kansas City; his close companion, Helen Marie
Perry of the home. Other survivors include 2 sisters, Mrs.
Opal Pickering, Hamilton; and Mrs. Nelda Mae Bassett. He was
preceded in death by his parents, one brother Walter Harley
Emery, and one sister Emma Katherine Mayes.
It was the family's desire that the funeral services for Beryl
be held Thursday, at 10:30am at the Gowing Chapel, with the
Reverend Gary Roberts, officiating. Musical selections given
by Mrs. Thelma Norris, organist. Interment in South Point
Cemetery, Orrick, Missouri.

WILMA MARGARET BROWN EMERY - 12/16/1916 TO 5/3/1977
Wilma M. Emery was born December 16, 1916, southwest of
Orrick, the daughter of Willie Brown of Orrick and Maggie Mae
Elliott Brown of Rayville.
She passed away Tuesday, May 3, at the Truman Medical Center.
She was 61 years old at the time of her death. She was a
member of the Christian Union Church southwest of Orrick, and
a housewife.
On November 12, 1949, she was married to Beryl F. Emery of
Kansas City. She is survived by her husband Beryl of the home,
2 sons, Robert Black of Atchison, Kansas; and Benny Beryl
Emery of the home. 2 brothers, William Clell Brown and George
R. Brown, both of Excelsior Springs and 1 sister, Mrs. Lois
Downing of Omaha, NE. One grandchild, she was preceded in
death by her parents and 1 sister Mary Francis Schanek.
It was the family's desire that the funeral services for Mrs.
Emery be held at 11:00am, Friday at the Gowing Chapel with the
Reverend C. L. Duxbury officiating. Musical selections given
by Mrs. Bonita Albertson organist and soloist. Interment in
South Point Cemetery, Orrick.

WALTER HARLEY EMERY - 3/31/1924 to 8/23/1943
Walter Harley Emery, the youngest son of Benjamin Emery and
Myrtle Mae Emery, was born south of Kingston, on March 31,
1924, and came to his untimely death on August 23, 1943, at
the age of 19 years, 4 months and 23 days.
He was schooled and reared to young manhood in the Kingston
community and grew in people's hearts so that his remarkable
good health and manly strength made his tragic death so
shocking to the community.
At the age of 15, his pal and mother, Myrtle Mae Emery,
preceded him in death, thus he shared more of the burden with
his father, brother and young sisters, in keeping their home.
He was a true soldier of the home front. One of whose efforts
will be sadly missed in the community. Harley always did more
than his part cheerfully and willingly with a smile.
He leaves to mourn his passing, his father, brother Beryl
Franklin Emery, third class seaman of the United States Navy;
sisters, Emma Katherine, Nelda Mae and Opal Irene Emery of the
home; a devoted grandmother, Mrs. Emma Coshow; several aunts,
uncles, cousins and other relatives besides a host of friends
numbered by all who knew him.
The funeral service was held from the Christian Church at
Kingston, Friday, August 27, at 2:30pm conducted by Reverend
James Heath. The body was laid to rest in the Kingston
cemetery, under the direction of Clark's.

EMMA KATHERINE EMERY MAYES - 9/29/1925 to 3/23/1990
Emma Katherine Mayes, 64, Lawson, Missouri, died Friday
morning, March 23, 1990, at Liberty Hospital in Liberty,
Missouri.
Mrs. Mayes was born in Caldwell county and lived most of her
life in the Polo, Missouri area. Mrs. Mayes was a member of
the Kingston Christian and the VFW No. 4179 Auxiliary, both of
Kingston, Missouri. She married Clifford Mayes on November 24,
1947, in Hamilton, Missouri. He survives. She was preceded in
death by a daughter, Opal Faye.
Additional survivors are 3 daughters, Patricia A. Taff of
Amarillo, Texas, Linda Mayes of Lawson and Barbara J. Eckles
of Kansas City, Missouri; a brother, Beryl Emery, Kansas City;
2 sisters, Nelda Bassett of Independence, Missouri and Opal
Pickering of Hamilton, Missouri, and six grandchildren.
The funeral was March 26 at Bailey Funeral Home in Polo,
Missouri. Burial was in the Kingston Cemetery, Kingston,
Missouri.

HOMER E. EMERY - 4/24/1890 TO 12/31/1973
Funeral services were held Monday, December 31, from the
Bracken Memorial Chapel in Ogallala for Homer E. Emery, 83, a
resident of the Ogallala community since 1942. Mr. Emery died
Saturday morning at Greeley, Colorado.
The Reverend Stanley D. Rider officiated at the services with
burial in the Ogallala Cemetery.
He was born April 24, 1890 in Caldwell county, Missouri, the
son of William and Mary Emery. He grew up to young manhood and
received his education at the place of birth.
On September 3, 1911, he married Clora Senter at Clay Center,
Kansas. The couple made their first home at Concordia, Kansas,
where they remained until moving to Excelsior Springs,
Missouri in 1915. They moved to Ogallala in 1942 and had been
residents of this community since that time.
His wife preceded him in death in February of this year. Mr.
Emery constructed and operated the Emery Motel, now known as
the Midwest Motel, and was engaged in that business until his
retirement in 1954.
He is survived by 2 sons, Harold of Boulder, Colorado, and
Lawrence of Greely, Colorado, a daughter, Mrs. Maxine Hope of
Excelsior Springs, Missouri; and by 6 grandchildren and 9
great grandchildren.
Mr. Emery was the last of 11 children, Bracken Mortuary was in
charge of the arrangements.

MAXINE LUCILLE EMERY HOPE - 2/24/1915 to 10/9/1997
Maxine Lucille Emery Hope, 82, Excelsior Springs, Missouri,
died October 9, at the Excelsior Springs Medical Center.
Funeral services were October 11, at the Prichard Funeral
Home, Excelsior Springs. Burial in the Masonic Cemetery,
Excelsior Springs. The family suggests contributions to the
Barbee Memorial Presbyterian church, Excelsior Springs.
Mrs. Hope was born on February 24, 1915, in Concordia, Kansas,
the daughter of Homer and Coral Senter Emery. On September 3,
1934, she was married to Virgil Hope, who preceded her in
death on February 2, 1993. Mrs. Hope was a licensed funeral
director and with her husband owned and operated the Hope
Funeral Home in Excelsior Springs, retiring in 1971. She was a
member of the Barbee Memorial Presbyterian Church and the
C.J.P.E.O. Excelsior Springs. She is survived by 2 daughters,
Bette Carol Tompkins and Peggy Suzanne Babb, both of Excelsior
Springs, Robert L. Babb, Kearney, Beth Babb, Excelsior Springs
and five great grandchildren.

WILLIAM AMBROSE EMERY - 5/15/1847 to 1/11/1902
William Ambrose Emery died at his home 2 miles South of
Bonanza, at 12:00p Saturday, January 11, 1902. Mr. Emery's
death was caused by consumption, with which he has suffered
for the past year. The funeral was conducted at the house
Sunday morning at 11:00a by Rev. J. W. Power of the U.B.
Church of Polo. The remains were interned in the Kingston
Cemetery. Deceased was born May 15, 1847, in Coshocton County,
Ohio. He married Miss Mary C. Frazier of Green County, Indiana
in 1969, and by this union 11 children were born, all of whom
are now living. The family came to Caldwell county in 1881,
and have resided here ever since. He united with the Christian
church when he was 17 years of age of which he remained a
faithful member until 1890, when he united with the U.B.
Church by letter, in which he lived a faithful and true
Christian until his death, and often expressed himself as
being ready and willing to meet his maker at any time he
called.

MARY CATHERINE FRAZIER EMERY - 7/29/1849 to 7/21/1938
Mary Catherine Frazier was born July 29, 1849, in Cecilia,
Kentucky and died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Flora
Lester near Jerico Springs on July 21, 1938, lacking just 8
days of reaching her 89th birthday. At the age of five she
moved with her parents to Indiana where she grew to womanhood.
She was married to William A. Emery on November 18, 1869 and
to them were born 6 daughters and 5 sons, 2 sons and 2
daughters having preceded their mother in death. Mr. Emery
died January 11, 1902. In addition to her own children she
gave a mother's love and care to 4 small half-brothers and
sisters, 2 grandsons and 1 great granddaughter. Her whole life
was devoted to untiring and unselfish service to others. She
came with her husband and children to Pettis County, Missouri
in 1879 and for many years lived on a farm near Kingston. The
children are Rhoda Florence Porter who died in 1920; John
William Emery, of Polo; Flora Lester of Jerico Springs; Mary
Harriett West of Richmond; Jonas A. Emery, who died May 11,
1938; Jennie Hughes palmer of Anaheim, California; Dollie
Elliott of Breckenridge; Wallace A. Emery who died in 1922;
Olive Sadler who died in 1906; Ben Emery of Kingston; and
Homer Emery of Excelsior Springs, Missouri. There are 40 grand
children, 45 great grandchildren; 3 half-brothers and 1
half-sister; Noah Frazier of Bedford, Indiana; Will Frazier of
Colfax, Washington; King Frazier of North Salem, Indiana and
Mrs. Anna Fletcher of Spokane. Today the journey is ended; I
have worked out the mandate of fate. Naked, alone, undefended,
I knocked at the uttermost gate. Lo, the gates open wide at my
knocking. Across endless reaches I see, lost friends with
laughter come flocking. To give a glad welcome to me,
farewell! The maze has been threaded. This is the ending of
strife. Say not that death should be dreaded, 'tis but the
beginning of life!

Rhoda Florence Porter was born in Owensburg, Green County,
Indiana, October 20, 1871 and died January 22, 1920, age 49
years, 3 months, 2 days. At the age of 19 she married Charley
Allen of Mirable and 3 children born, all preceding her in
death. In 1895 she married Harry E. Porter and 3 children were
born. She leaves her mother, husband, and 3 children. Body
taken to Polo, Missouri and from there to Kingston, Caldwell
County, the old family home, for burial.

JOHN WILLIAM EMERY - 5/21/1872 - 1/15/1948
John W. Emery, lifetime resident of this community, died in
his home Thursday morning, after about a 2 week illness. He
was born May 21, 1870 in Greene County, Indiana. He was the
2nd child of 11 children, 4 of whom survive. The family moved
to Missouri in 1879, settling in Caldwell County, where he
spent his entire life. He was widely known in this community
where for many years he was engaged in farming. On December
12, 1912, he was united in marriage with Miss Dora Lillian
Jackson, daughter of the late Jacob and Martha Jane Jackson,
early pioneers of Missouri and Caldwell county. Besides his
wife he is survived by 2 brothers, Ben Emery of Kingston;
Homer E. Emery of Ogallala, Nebraska and 2 sisters, Mrs. Flora
Lester of Hamilton and Mrs. Jennie Palmer of Anaheim,
California. Also several nieces and nephews. He united with
the Methodist church at an early age. Funeral services were
held Sunday afternoon at the Methodist church with the pastor,
Reverend W. O. G. Potter officiating. Burial was in the
Cowgill Cemetery. The WSCS of the Methodist church served a
lunch of sandwiches, pickles, cake and coffee to about 45
relatives and friends from out-of-town who were here Sunday to
attend the funeral rites for John Emery. Those from

DORA LILLIAN PET JACKSON EMERY - 10/11/1873 to 3/29/1959
Mrs. Dora Lillian Pet Emery was found dead by her bed early
Monday morning. She was 85 years old and had lived alone the
past 11 years since the death of her husband, John Emery. She
was found by R. W. Hufft and Mrs. Lucille Jones while Mr.
Hufft was delivering oil and Mrs. Jones was calling. The
coroner's inquest determined the time of death as late Sunday
and from natural causes. She had not been very well for
sometime, but able to care for herself. Mrs. Jackson was the
youngest of 16 children of Jacob and Martha Jackson, all of
whom have preceded her in death. Funeral services were held
Wednesday at 2:00p at the Polo Methodist Church with Rev. M.
O. Eisenhower officiating assisted by Reverend Don Stanley.
Burial was made in the Cowgill Cemetery in charge of
Alspaugh-Cowley mortuary. Casket bearers were nephews: Glenn
Teegarden, Carl Jackson, John Thomas Hyder, Roger Jackson,
Hugh D. Teegarden, and Donald Jackson.

FLORENCE ELLEN LESTER CLINE - 3/9/1875 to 3/23/1949
Flora Ellen Emery was born March 9, 1875, near Koleen, Green
County, Indiana. She died March 23, 1949, aged 74 years and 14
days. The family moved to Pettis County, Missouri in 1879 and
a year later moved to Caldwell County, where they settled
permanently. When about 16 years of age she accepted Christ as
her savior and united with the United Brethren Church at
Hazelview. Later she placed her membership with the Christian
Union Church at Bonanza, where her children were already
members. May 16, 1895, she was married to Joseph Ellsworth
“Hooker” Lester, who preceded her in death April 21, 1933. To
this union 11 children were born, 3 sons and 1 daughter having
preceded their parents in death. Those surviving are 3 sons,
William Howard, of Montevallo; Charles Ellsworth of Bethany;
and Jesse Edgar of Hamilton; 4 daughters, Mrs. Leonard Miller
of Kingston; Mrs. Forrest Shadduck of Cameron; Mrs. Claude
Fellows of Jericho Springs, and Mrs. L. W. Chase of
Montevallo, also 17 grandchildren, and 1 great granddaughter,
1 sister, Mrs. Bert Palmer of Anaheim, California; at whose
home she died, 2 brothers, Ben Emery of Kingston and Homer
Emery of Ogallalah, Nebraska. On December 17, 1940, she
married George W. Cline, Charity, who passed away August 2,
1944. Surviving are 3 stepsons, Lester, Cecil and Oral Cline.
Mrs. Cline had gone to spend the winter with her sister in
California and was preparing to start home when she became ill
of pneumonia. Mrs. Shadduck and Mrs. Fellows left immediately
upon learning of her serious condition, but their mother had
entered into rest 6 hours before their arrival.

JOSEPH ELLSWORTH LESTER - 8/8/1861 to 4/21/1933
Joseph Ellsworth Lester, son of Howard and Marietta Lester,
was born August 8, 1861, in Jay County, Indiana, and departed
this life April 21, 1933, age 71 years, 8 months and 13 days.
At the age of 7 years, he came, with his parents, brothers and
sister to Caldwell County, Missouri where he spent the
remainder of his life, with the exception of 4 years of his
early manhood spent in Nebraska. He was for many years a
faithful member of the Hazel View United Brethern church. On
May 16, 1895, he was married to Flora Ellen Emery, and to this
union 11 children were born, 3 sons and 1 daughter preceding
him in death. He is survived by his wife, 3 sons, William H.,
Charles E., and Jesse Edgar; 4 daughters, Mrs. Leonard Miller,
Mrs. Forest Shaddock, Mrs. Hope Lester and Mrs. LaVertice
Chase. A sister, Mrs. E. S. Thompson, of Okmulgee, Oklahoma,
also survives. Also 6 grandchildren and many other relatives
and friends.

WILLIAM HOWARD LESTER - 4/13/1896 to 1/8/1973
Tractor accident kills farmer, 76, Montevallo, Missouri. A 76
year old farmer was killed Monday in a tractor accident on his
farm, about a mile South of Montevallo, in Vernon County.
Authorities said the victim, William Howard Lester, was killed
while on his tractor, grinding feed for his cattle. The
tractor went out of control, pinning Lester between a tree and
the steering wheel. Mr. Lester was born in Kingston, Missouri,
April 13, 1896, and had lived near Montevallo 26 years. Mr.
Lester was the son of Joseph Ellsworth and Flora Ellen Lester.
Mr. Lester leaves his wife, Mrs. Genevieve Lester of the home;
2 brothers, Charles E. Lester, Manson, Washington, and Jesse
E. Lester, Centerview, Missouri; 3 sisters, Mrs. Elma
Shadduck, Peculiar in Cass County; Mrs. Hope Fellows, Jerico
Springs, Missouri; Mrs. Bessie Chase, El Dorado Springs,
Missouri; a grandson, and 2 great-grandsons. Services will be
at 2:00p Friday at the Ferry Chapel, Nevada, Missouri; burial
in the Kingston, Missouri Cemetery.

GENEVIEVE DYER LESTER - 1884 to 3/20/1976
Mrs. Genevieve Dyer Lester, 91, of a nursing home at 1500 N.
Liberty, Independence, formerly of 11305 E. 78th Terr.,
Raytown, Missouri, died Saturday at Research Medical Center.
She was born in Jerico Springs, Missouri in 1884 and passed
away March 20, 1976, and lived in that area most of her life.
Mrs. Lester leaves 2 brothers, Burley Van Allen, Boonesville,
Arkansas and Gary Van Allen of Eufaula, Oklahoma, 1 sister,
Mrs. Mattie Mageniz, Eufaula; 3 grandchildren and 5 great
grandchildren. Services will be at 1p Tuesday at the Carson
Blue Ridge Chapel, burial in Memorial Park Cemetery, Kansas
City. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30p tonight at the chapel.

Mrs. Leonard Miller, 74, a native of Caldwell County, died
Wednesday afternoon at the Chillicothe Hospital. Mrs. Miller
was the widow of Leonard Miller who died in January of this
year. She had lived in Hamilton the past few years. She is
survived by 3 sons, Donald Miller, Kingston; Lyndell Miller,
Kansas City; Joe Wayne Miller, Excelsior Springs; and
daughter, Mrs. Audrey Wright of Hamilton; 3 brothers, Jesse
Lester, Warrensburg; Charles Lester, Manson, Washington , and
William Lester, Montevallo; 3 sisters, Mrs. Hope Fellows,
Jerico Springs, Mrs. Joy Chase, Kansas City; and Mrs. Elma
Shadduck, Cameron; and 8 grandchildren. The funeral was Sunday
at the Bram Chapel conducted by Reverend Jim McCullough.
Interment was in the Kingston Cemetery.

Miller was born February 7, 1922 and departed this life
February 24, 1923, age 1 year and 17 days. One of such as was
represented by our Saviour as being greatest in the kingdom of
heaven. Precious darling thou hast left us. Left us yes,
forevermore. But we hope to meet our loved one. On that bright
and happy shore. Lonely the home and sad the hour, since our
dear one has gone; But oh! A brighter home than ours. In
heaven is now her own. Funeral services were conducted by Rev.
C. E. Kennedy at the family home near Kingston, Missouri.

Leonard David Miller, 75, Kingston, died Saturday at the home.
Mr. Miller was a lifelong resident of Caldwell County. He was
a retired laborer. He was a veteran of World War I. He leaves

JOHN CLIFTON WRIGHT - 6/16/1921 to 4/9/1997
John Clifton Wright, 75, Hamilton, Missouri, died Wednesday,
April 9, 1997, at North Kansas City Hospital. Mr. Wright was
born in Breckenridge, Missouri, on June 16, 1921, John lived
in the Hamilton area most of his life. He owned and operated
Wright's Garage and Wrecker Service in Hamilton for 45 years.
During World War II he served in the Army Air Corps. He served
on the Hamilton Volunteer Fire Department 46 years. He was
preceded in death by his parents Jesse and Mamie: 4 sisters,
Mildred Bridgeford, Helen Wright, Mary Jo Billups and Margaret
Rush. On May 12, 1958, he married Audrey Miller in Hamilton,
she survives of the home. Other survivors are 3 daughters,
Donna Hartman of St. Petersburg, Florida; Deborah Frankenfield
of Pleasant Valley, Missouri; and Johnna Perry of Liberty,
Missouri. A brother, Jesse Jr. Wright of Albuquerque, New
Mexico and 4 sisters, Effie Cunningham of Baltimore, Ruby
Nicholson of Liberty, Luana Catron of Hamilton, and Ellen
Evans of Cameron, Missouri, 3 grandchildren. A private family
memorial service was held. The body was cremated. Family
visitation is at the John Wright residence in Hamilton.
Memorial contributions will buy shrubs to be planted around
the statue that stands in Baby Lane at Highland Cemetery.

ELMA ELLA LESTER SHADDUCK - 3/21/1902 TO 5/27/1988
Elma Ella Shadduck, 86, of Peculiar, died May 27, 1988, at
Cass Medical Center in Harrisonville. She was born in
Kingston, Missouri, the daughter of Joseph E. and Flora Ellen
Emery Lester. Mrs. Shadduck grew up in Kingston but spent most
of her adult life in Cameron, Missouri. She lived in Peculiar
for the past 16 years. On June 22, 1927, she married Forrest
N. Shadduck. She was a member of the Christian Union Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
Survivors include a son, Paul W. Shadduck of Peculiar; 3
daughters. Doris Cornelius of Waukee, Iowa, Ellen Whitmer of
Chillicothe, Missouri, and Elma Larimer of Olympia,
Washington; 2 brothers, Charles Lester of Mason, Washington,
and Jesse Lester of Conway, Arkansas; a sister, Joy Chase of
El Dorado Springs, Missouri; 12 grandchildren; and 18
great-grandchildren. Graveside services were May 31 at Cameron
Memorial Gardens, under the direction of Poland-Thompson
Funeral Home; the Reverend George Moore officiated. Pall
bearers were Dennis Cornelius, Gary Cornelius, Charles Atwood,
Chris Hansen, Dowell Kincaid and Troy Figg.

FORREST NICHOLAS SHADDUCK - 12/5/1889 to 7/3/1969
Forrest N. Shadduck, 79, died July 3, 1969, in a nursing home
in Hamilton, Missouri. Mr. Shadduck married Elma Ella Lester,
June 6, 1927, Kingston, Missouri. Mr. Shadduck was a retired
carpenter and a member of the RLDS Church. Survivors include
his wife, Mrs. Elma Shadduck; a son Paul Shadduck of Kansas
City; 3 daughters, Mrs. Doris Cornelius, Des Moines, Iowa;
Mrs. Ellen Whitmer, Richmond and Mrs. Joy Hughes, Kansas City;
a brother, Paul Shadduck, Roseburg, Oregon; a sister, Mrs. Eva
Truder, Los Angels, California and 12 grandchildren. Services
were July 7 at the Micheal Mortuary. Burial was in the Cameron
Memory Gardens.

GLADYS HOPE LESTER FELLOWS - 3/3/1903 to 10/11/1976
Mrs. Hope Fellows passed away at the Springfield Medical
Center, October 11, 1976. Gladys Hope Lester, the daughter of
Joseph Ellsworth and Flora Ellen Lester was born March 3, 1903
southeast of Kingston, Missouri. Mrs. Fellows moved to Cedar
County in 1936. She was married to Claude Fellows October 21,
1941. Services for Mrs. Fellows, 73, of Jerico Springs, were
held at 2:00p Wednesday in Jerico Springs United Methodist
Church with the Reverend Frank Nickel officiating. Burial was
in Brasher Cemetery under the direction of Long Funeral Home.
She died at 12:15p Monday, October 11, 1976 in Medicenter in
Springfield, Missouri, after a long illness. Mrs. Fellows was
a member of Fairview Community Church and the Jerusalem Club
and Greenridge WPFA. She had moved here from Caldwell County
in 1937. Survivors include 2 sisters, Mrs. Elma Shadduck,
Peculiar, and Mrs. Joy Chase of El Dorado Springs; 2 brothers,
Charles Lester, Manson, Washington; Jesse Lester, Conway,
Arkansas.

CLAUDE ARTHUR FELLOWS - 9/30/1884 to 8/11/1956
Claude Arthur Fellows, son of W. I. Fellows and Martha Francis
Fellows was born in Chariton County, Missouri, September 30,
1884. Departed this life at his home near Jerico Springs,
August 11, 1956 at the age of 71 years, 10 months, 11 days. He
came with his parents to Cedar County, Missouri when about 4
years old and spent the remainder of his life here on the farm
of his father except about 8 years in Oklahoma. He was
converted to Christ some 30-35 years ago and was baptized by
the late Reverend Porter. He was never too busy to leave his
own work to go to help someone else and even when his health
was failing and he was not physically able he would still go
and help. He remained cheerful to the end and his deeds will
be long remembered by his many friends. Surviving are his wife
Hope, of the home; 2 sons and their wives, Wayne of Neosho,
and Elmo of DeQueen, Arkansas; Raymond Elmo Jr., and great
great-grandson Raymond Elmo III, of Bartlesville, OK. Three
brothers, Lee of Nevada; Earl of Lamar, Missouri; and Lester
of Milford, Missouri; three sisters, Mrs. Belle Cardwell of
Stockton, Missouri; Mrs. Maud Potter of Montevallo, Missouri;
and Mrs. Effie Ready of Kansas City, Missouri, and 3 nieces
and 6 nephews. Funeral services were conducted Monday
afternoon at 2:00p, August 13, 1956 at the Jericho Springs
Methodist Church by Rev. W. H. Jones officiating assisted by
Rev. Frank Nickel. Songs “In The Garden”, “It is Well With My
Soul”, and “No Night There” were sung by Wanonia Skaggs,
Gladys Morrison, Buenta Long, Rev. Frank Nickel, Rev. W. H.

Bessie Olive “Joy” Lester Chase, 82, of RR 3, El Dorado
Springs, was born May 29, 1907, in Kingston, Caldwell
County, Missouri, the daughter of Joseph E. and Flora Emery
Lester. She dies August 30, 1989, at the University of
Kansas Medical Center, Kansas City, Kansas. On August 30,
1930, she was united in marriage with L. W. “Bud” Chase, who
survives, in addition to her husband, she is survived by
their 3 children and their families who are: Roy Lester
Chase, his wife, Shirley and their sons, Bruce, his wife,
Julia, and Kenneth, all of Middlebury, Florida; Dorothy
Chase Carriker, her husband Ulysses “Casey”, of Stephens
City, Virginia, their daughter, Kathleen, her husband, Dean,
and grandson, David of Raytown; Normand David Chase, his
wife, Robbie, 2 daughters, Martha and Jennifer, of
Parkville, Missouri. Two brothers, Charles of Manson,
Washington, and Jesse, of Conway, Arkansas, also survive
along with 14 nieces and nephews. Burial was September 5,
1989 in the Brasher Cemetery, near Jericho Springs,
Missouri. As implied by her name, Joy brought joy into the
lives of all who knew her. She will be greatly missed by her
family and many friends.

LAVERTISE W “BUD” CHASE - 5/11/1910 to 3/1/1993
LaVertise W. “Bud” Chase, 82, formerly of El Dorado Springs,
died Monday, March 1, 1993, at the Platte City Caring
Center, Platte City. He was born May 11, 1910, in Enid,
Oklahoma, the son of Lester Roy and Frances Elizabeth
Blazier Chase. He is proceeded in death by his parents and 3
brothers, including his twin brother, LaVie Chase. On August
30, 1930, in Independence, Missouri, he was united in
marriage with Joe Lester, who died August 30, 1989, on the
couple's 59th wedding anniversary. Mr. Chase was a truck
driver who spent most of his adult like in and around Kansas
City prior to retirement to the Olympia area south of El
Dorado Springs in 1973. After the death of his wife, he
entered the Platte City Caring Center. He is survived by 3
children, Roy Lester Chase and wife Shirley, of Middleburg,
Florida; Dorothy Ruth Chase Carriker and husband, Ulysses,
of Stephens City, Virginia; and Normal David Chase and wife,
Roberta of Parkville; 5 grandchildren, Bruce Chase and wife,
Julie and Kenneth Chase of Middleburg, Florida; Kathleen
Carriker See and husband, Dean, of Liberty, and Martha and
Jennifer Chase of Parkville; 1 great grandson, David Kenneth
See, of Liberty. Graveside services were held Friday, March
5, conducted by Rev. Warren Hall, with burial in Brasher

Mrs. Delores Lester, 71, of Conway, Arkansas, died Monday,
September 18, 1989. Born May 22, 1918, in Missouri, a daughter
of the late Richard B. and Barbara Morris Leach, she was a
retired nursing home employee, a Presbyterian and the wife of
Jesse Lester. Other survivors are 5 sons, Richard Lester of
Centerview, Missouri; Stanley Lester of Warrensburg, Missouri;
Morris and Craig Lester, both of Vilonia, and Keith Lester of
Greenbrier; 2 daughters, Mrs. Marylyn Smith of Mount Vernon
and Mrs. Emily Lee of Greenbrier; a brother, Harold
Baltinghouse of Kelso, Washington; 2 sisters, Mrs. Idoma Ellis
of Ed Dorado Springs, Missouri; and Mrs. Mary King of
Fredrickown, Missouri; 14 grandchildren; and 1 great
grandchild. Funeral services will be at 10a Friday at the
Roller-McNutt Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jesse Thomas
officiating. Burial will be in Crestlawn Memorial Park. Family
visitation will be from 7-9p tomorrow at the funeral home.

Paul Milton Lester died yesterday of injuries suffered in a
motorcycle accident near Warrensburg. Mr. Lester is survived
by his wife, Charlotte, of the home in Warrensburg. His
parents Mr. Jesse and Mrs. Delores Lester of Conway, Arkansas.

Daughter of William and Mary Catherine Emery, was born August
2, 1987 at Bedford, Indiana and passed away at her home in
Richmond, Missouri the 25th day of November 1941 at the age of
65 years, 3 months, 23 days. When but a small child she moved
with her parents to Kingston, Missouri. On September 2, 1894,
she married Arthur Adrain Luther, 9/2/1894 and one son,
William Brown Luther was born 7/8/1895. On December 19, 1898,
she was married to Alfred West who survives. She was the
mother of 11 children. Three preceded her in death. Surviving
are 5 sons and 3 daughters. William Luther of Kidder,
Missouri. Roscoe West of Kansas City, Missouri. Robert and
Ralph West of Richmond and Orville West of the home; Mrs.
Robert Butler of Richmond; Mrs. Harlow Yoakum of Rayville; and
Mrs. Glen Estes of Richmond; 2 sisters, Mrs. Jennie Palmer of
Anaheim, California; Mrs. Flora Cline of Charity, Missouri; 3
brothers, Ben Emery of Kingston; John Emery of Polo, and Homer
Emery of Excelsior Springs; 15 grandchildren and a host of
relatives and friends. At an early age she joined the
Christian Union Church at Bonanza, Missouri, remaining
faithful to the end.

Alfred West of Taitsville passed away yesterday January 5,
1942. Mr. West was born March 20, 1874, the son of Thomas J.
West and Susan Jane Myers West. Mr. West is survived by 5
sons, Bill Luther, step-son; Henry West; Robert West; Ralph
West; and Orville West; 4 daughters, Flora Bell, Grace May,
Wonhetta, and Maggie Louise. Services were at the Reed Funeral

WILLIAM BROWN LUTHER - 7/8/1895 to 2/22/1965
Memorial services for William Brown Luther, 69, of Hamilton,
will be held this Thursday afternoon at 2:00p at the Bram
Chapel at Hamilton. Burial will be in the Kingston cemetery.
Mr. Luther died unexpectedly Monday afternoon of a heart
attack at the home. He and Mrs. Luther were returning to the
house from a nearby barn after doing some chores when he was
stricken. He was a half-brother of Orville West, Mrs. Harlow
Yoakum, Mrs. Glen Estes, Mrs. J. O. Swafford, Robert West and
Roscoe West, all of the Richmond area. Other survivors include
the widow, Mrs. Ruth Luther of the home; 5 sons, J. W. Luther
of Hamilton; Arthur Luther of McCook, Nebraska; Jack Luther of
Kansas City; Jim Luther, member of the armed services in

Mrs. Flora B. Butler, 84, Richmond, died Tuesday at a hospital
here. She was born in Ray county, Missouri, February 14, 1900
and had lived in Knoxville, Missouri, most of her life before
she moved to Richmond in 1977. Mrs. Butler was a member of St.
Paul Christian Church, near Knoxville. She leaves a son, Estel
Butler, Knoxville; 3 daughters, Mrs. Zelma Kinder, Carrollton,
Missouri; Mrs. Thelma Knutter, Warsaw, Missouri; and Mrs.
Ethel Teegarden, Knoxville. Two brothers, Robert and Orville
and 2 sisters, Mrs. Grace Yoakum and Mrs. Maggie Estes all of

RAYMOND F. RUSSELL - 7/28/1917 to 4/12/1956
Funeral services for Raymond F. Russell, 38 year old Knoxville
farmer, were held at 2p today at the St. Paul Chapel East of
Knoxville. The Rev. Edwin Shelton, Kansas City, officiated.
Burial was in the Knoxville cemetery. Russell was killed
instantly Wednesday morning when a tractor overturned, pinning
him beneath it. He was plowing a field on the Herbert Hauser
farm one mile North of Knoxville. He was born July 28, 1917 in
Berry County, Missouri. His parents were the late William and
Rita Watkins Russell, native Missourians. A resident of Ray
county since childhood, he was a member of St. Paul's Chapel
Christian Union Church at Knoxville. On January 14, 1939, he
was married to Ethel Maude Butler, Knoxville who survives. He
is survived by a daughter, Linda; 3 brothers, Harrison
Russell, California; Clarence Russell, St. Louis; Cecil
Russell, Marceline, Missouri; 1 sister, Mrs. Opal Payne of
California.

ESTEL LELAND BUTLER - 2/27/1921 to 5/12/1997
Estel L. Butler, 76, of the Knoxville community, died at
12:25p, Monday, May 12, 1997, at Ray County Memorial Hospital
in Richmond. Mr. Butler was born February 27, 1921, in Ray
county to Robert W. and Flora B. West Butler, who preceded him
in death. He married Temple May Joiner, of Richmond, on
September 3, 1947. She survives of the home. He was a retired
farmer and truck driver. He was formerly employed at the Lake
City Arsenal plant. He had lived most of his life in the
Knoxville area. He was a US Army veteran, having served during
peacetime. Other survivors include 1 son, Jack Edwin Butler,
Orrick; 2 daughters, Janet Tippit, Lathrop and Jo Ellen
Butler, Richmond; 3 sisters, Ethel Maud Teegarden, Knoxville;
and Zelma Kinder and Thelma Knutter both of Warsaw; 3
grandchildren, Michael E. Marrant, Kevin D. Marrant and Chris
Butler; 1 uncle, Lonnie Butler; 2 aunts, Pinnie Morrison and
Maggie Estes both of Richmond; and several cousins.

Roscoe West, 72, of Knoxville, Missouri, died Saturday at the
home. He was a lifelong resident of Ray County. He was a
retired farmer. He was a member of the St. Paul Chapel
Christian Union Church, Knoxville. He leaves his wife, Mrs.
Effie West of the home; a stepson, Virgil Wybar, Blue Springs;
2 brothers, Robert and Orville West of Richmond, Missouri; 3
sisters, Mrs. Flora Swafford, Knoxville; Mrs. Maggie Estes and
Mrs. Grace Yoakum, of Richmond, and a grandchild. Services
will be at 1:30p Monday at the Thurman Chapel; burial in
Richmond Memory Gardens, both in Richmond. Friends may call

ROBERT EMERY WEST - 7/29/1905 to 7/8/1992
Robert E. West, 86, of Richmond, died at 11:20a Wednesday,
July 8, 1992, at the Ray County Memorial Hospital in Richmond.
Mr. West was born July 29, 1905, in Taitsville, Missouri to
Alfred and Mary Harriett “Hattie” Emery West. He married Lucy
Ann Lay on August 1, 1930. He later married Charlene Bryant
Moyer of Millville in January of 1969; she survives at the
home. Mr. West was a retired farmer. He was a Protestant. He
had lived a few years in Kansas City before returning to Ray
county. He was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Bill Luther,
Roscoe West and Ralph West; 4 sisters, Flora Butler and 3 who
died in infancy. Other survivors include one brother, Orville
West of Richmond; 2 sisters, Maggie Estes and Grace Yoakum,
both of Richmond; and he is also survived by several nieces
and nephews. Funeral services will be Friday, July 10, at
1:30p at the Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond. The Rev. Kathy
Morrison will officiate. Visitation will be tonight from 7-8p
at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond. Burial will be at

GRACE MAE WEST YOAKUM - 11/25/1907 to 6/8/1993
Grace M. Yoakum, 85, of Richmond, died at 7:35a Tuesday, June
8, 1993, at Shirkey Leisure Acres Nursing Home. Mrs. Yoakum
was born November 25, 1907, in Ray county, to Alfred and Mary
Harriett “Hattie” (Emery) West. She married Millard Harlow
Yoakum on December 1, 1928, he preceded her in death on July
5, 1972. She was a lifetime Ray County resident and member of
the Richmond Christian Union Church and the Order of the
Eastern Star, Richmond Chapter #255. In addition to her
husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three
brothers, Roscoe, Ralph and Robert West and a half brother
Bill Luther and four sisters, Flora Butler and three that died
infancy. Survivors include 2 sons, Donald Ray Yoakum of
Osceola and Robert P. Yoakum of Liberty; a daughter, Alta Fern
Still of Richmond; a brother Orville West of Richmond; a
sister, Maggie Estes of Richmond; and 3 grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 7p Thursday at Thurman Funeral Home,
Richmond. Funeral services are at 10:30a Friday, June 11, at
Thurman Funeral Home with Rev. Don Crowley officiating. Burial

Robert P. Yoakum, 52, Liberty, Missouri, formerly of Richmond,
Missouri, died at 10:22a, Monday, January 6, 1997, at the
Liberty Hospital, Liberty, Missouri. Funeral services will be
1:30p, Thursday, January 9, at the Thurman Funeral Home,
Richmond, Missouri; burial in South Point Cemetery, Orrick,
Missouri, where military graveside services will be held.

Yoakum was born October 13, 1944, in Knoxville, Missouri to
Millard Harlow and Grace m. West Yoakum. He married Mary Lynn
Middleton of Camden Missouri, September 1, 1973; she survives
of the home. Other survives include one son, Douglas R.
Yoakum, of the home; 1 daughter, Marcie A. Yoakum of the home;
1 brother, Donald Ray Yoakum, Osceola, Missouri; 1 sister,
Fern Still, Richmond, Missouri; and 1 granddaugher, Elle
Yoakum, St. Petersburg, Florida. In addition to his parents,
he was preceded in death by one son, Joshua M. Yoakum. Mr.
Yoakum owned and operated Quick Silver Trucking, Inc., for 25
years before retiring. He was a 1962 Richmond High School
graduate. He had lived in Knoxville, Richmond and Liberty,
Missouri. He played semi-pro football for the Kansas City
Steers. He had coached little league football for 14 years. He
was a member of the Christian Union Church in Richmond,
Missouri. He was a US Army veteran of the Vietnam War.

RALPH ALFRED WEST - 12/11/1911 to 6/1/1947
Services for Ralph Alfred West, who was fatally burned at the
Phillips 66 station, 13th and Franklin St., in Lexington, on
Thursday night, May 29th, in a gas station explosion, were
held Sunday afternoon, June 1, 1947, at 2:30p at the First
Baptist Church of Richmond. Mr. West died in the St. Joseph
hospital in Kansas City, Friday morning at 9:00a, where he had
been taken for treatment. He was born December 11, 1911, in
Knoxville, the son of the late Alfred and Mary Harriet Emery
Luther West. He had lived his entire life in Ray county, until
10 months ago, when he moved to Lexington. He was married to
Alvena Shumate December 25, 1927. Survivors include his wife;
1 daughter, Kay Francis; 3 brothers, Roscoe of Kansas City,
Missouri, Robert and Orville of Richmond; 3 sisters, Mrs.
Flora Butler, Mrs. Grace Yoakum, Mrs. Maggie Estes, all of
Knoxville; 1 half-brother, William B. Luther of Hamilton.
Burial was in the Sunny Slope Cemetery with Rev. James Heath
of Hamilton officiating, and the Quest-Lile Funeral Home in
charge.

Orville P. West, 80, of Richmond, Missouri, died at 2:20p,
Tuesday, August 20, 1996, at the Ray County memorial hospital
in Richmond. Funeral services will be held 2:00p Friday,
August 23, at Thurman Funeral Home, Richmond, military
graveside services will follow at Sunny Slope Cemetery,
Richmond, conducted by the Ray County veterans. Visitation
will be 7-8p Thursday, at the Thurman Funeral Home, Richmond,
Missouri. Mr. West was born December 14, 1915, in Taitsville,
Missouri, to Alfred and Harriett (Emery) West. He married
Jessie M. Davidson of Richmond, on April 12, 1947; she
survives of the home. Other survivors include one sister,
Maggie Estes of Richmond; and several nieces and nephews. In
addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one son,
who died in infancy, Charles Dean West; 4 brothers, Robert,
Ralph, Roscoe West and Bill Luther. 2 sisters, Grace Yoakum
and Flora Butler. Mr. West worked in the maintenance
department at the VA Hospital in Excelsior Springs and Kansas
City, Missouri. He then served as Commissioner of the Richmond
Water Department. He worked in the maintenance department for
the Richmond school district before retiring. He was a member
of the St. Paul's Christian Union Church. He also was a member
of the Richmond VFW, Richmond American Legion and Disabled
American Veterans. Mr. West was a US Army Veteran of WWII.

Funeral services were scheduled for 1:30p today at St. Paul's
Christian Union Church near Knoxville for Glen Estes, 64, 160
S. Institute, Richmond. Mr. Estes died June 21, 1980 at Ray
County Memorial Hospital following a lengthy illness. He was
born August 25, 1915 in Ray County, a son of N. B. and
Florence Gentry Estes. He was married to Maggie West of Ray
County on August 31, 1939. She survives of the home. Mr. Estes
had been a farmer and had worked for the Missouri State
Highway Department. He retired six years ago. He was a member
of the church and a lifelong resident of Ray County. He is
survived by 2 sons, Gary Estes and Dennis Estes, of Richmond;
1 daughter, Mrs. Glenda Prewitt, Excelsior Springs, 4 sisters,
Mrs. Anna Hendrix, Mrs. Noah Johnson, both of Richmond, Mrs.
Dorothy Hilton, Kansas City and Mrs. Colene McFall, Polo; and
one granddaughter, Amy Estes, Richmond. 4 brothers and 2
sisters preceded him in death. Rev. Norman Goodman officiated
at the funeral services today. Burial was in Richmond Memory
Gardens with Wilbur Estes, Norman Estes, Melvin Hendrix, Milo
Hendrix, Lindell Forson, Billy Johnson, Clarence Dothagy and
Jim McFall serving as pallbearers.

Kingston Paper Funeral Here Sunday Funeral services were held
from the Kingston Christian Church Sunday afternoon for Jonas
Emery, who died 5/11/1938 in Fort Collins, Colorado. The Hope
Funeral Service of Excelsior Springs drove through after the
body. Mrs. Hope is a niece of the deceased. Mr. Emery is a
former resident of this community and the son of Mary Emery,
East of Kingston.

JENNIE EMERY HUGHES PALMER - 2/15/1880 to 8/9/1967
Mrs. Jennie Palmer, 87, a native of Missouri, but a resident
of Anaheim 35 years, died Wednesday, August 9, 1967 at a local
hospital. She lived at 124 Harding St. Mrs. Palmer was born
February 15, 1880 in Pettis County, Missouri. Surviving her is
a daughter, Mrs. Frank Thompson, San Francisco; 2 sons,
William Hughes, Fullerton, and Theodore Hughes, Anaheim; a
brother, Homer Emery, Nebraska, 7 grandchildren and 6
great-great grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted
Saturday at 2p in Hilgenfeld Mortuary Chapel, 120 E. Broadway,
Anaheim, by the Rev. Walter F. Dunn. Interment will be in the
family plot in Melrose Abbey Memorial Park.

LON M. HUGHES - 4/7/1903 to 7/23/1959
Funeral services for Lon M. Hughes, well-known San Francisco
public relations consultant and former Financial Editor of The
Examiner, will be conducted at 1:00p Monday at the N. Gray
& Company Chapel, Post and Division Street. The rites will
be followed by internment at the Golden Gate National
Cemetery. Mr. Hughes served with the 7th Fleet in WWII as a
Commander. He was awarded the Bronze Star for Meritorious
service with the 7th Fleet. He died late Wednesday night, July
23, 1959, of a heart attack at his home, 2443 Gough Street, he
was 56. At the age of 16, Mr. Hughes joined the US Navy and
served as an wireless operator. Amongst his ports of call were
Yokohoma, Japan during the Earthquake. Shanghai, China at the
time of the Boxer uprising. In recent years, Mr. Hughes owned
and operated the Hughes Organization, a public relations firm
at 376 Sutter Street. He began his career in the newspaper
business in 1925 as an office boy on the San Francisco
Bulletin. He was Assistant Financial Editor when the Bulletin
was merged with the Call. In 1929 Mr. Hughes joined the Wall
Street Journal and became its City Editor in 1932. At the same
time he began a daily financial radio network program with the
National Broadcasting Company. He was appointed financial
editor of the Examiner in 1933, a position he held until he
went into business for himself in 1947. Mr. Hughes' wife
Charlotte, died in 1957. He leaves 2 sons, Timothy, 12 and Lon
Kennedy, 7. Mr. Hughes is also survived by his mother, Mrs.
Jeannie Palmer, 3 brothers, Theodore, William and Ray Hughes,
all of Anaheim, and 2 sisters, Mrs. Velma Thompson and Mrs.
Lillie Lindahl.

ANNA ESTELLA EMERY ELLIOTT - 1/12/1882 to 1/29/1940
Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon on 1:00p at the
Michael Funeral Home in Brayer for Mrs. Wilbur Elliott, who
passed away Monday, January 29th at the Wesley Hospital in
Kansas City. Rev. Solmes, was in charge, and burial was made
at the New Hope Cemetery. Anna Estella Emery was born January
12, 1882, near Bonanza, Caldwell County, Missouri. The
daughter of William Ambrose and Mary Catherine (Frazier)
Emery. She passed away at the Wesley Hospital in Kansas City,
Monday, January 29, 1940. On December 25, 1902 she was united
in marriage to Wilbur C. Elliott at the old home. The ceremony
was read by Rev. C. A. B. Watson. At the age of 11 she was
converted and united with the Brethern Church at Hazel View.
In later years she transferred her membership to the Assembly
of God Church in Chillicothe. To this union were born 7
children, 4 boys and 3 girls. The eldest, Ethel May, departed
this life on January 1, 1906, at the age of 2 years. There are
left to mourn the departure of this wife and mother, her
husband, Wilbur C. Elliott of near Breckenridge; J. W. Elliott
of Dawn; Frank and Eula of Hamilton; Chester, Lela, and Emery
of the home. Mrs. Elliott also leaves 3 brothers, John Emery
of Polo; Homer Emery of Excelsior Springs and Ben Emery of
Kingston; 3 sisters, Jennie Palmer of Anaheim, CA., Hattie
West of Richmond; Flora Lester of Jericho Springs, Missouri,
also 2 grandsons, 4 granddaughters and a number of nieces and
nephews and a host of neighbors and friends. A note of thanks:

WILBUR C. ELLIOTT - 10/28/1979 to 4/18/1964
Wilbur C. Elliott succumbed to illness at a St. Joseph
Hospital, Saturday, April 18, 1964, at the age of 84 years, 6
months and 10 days. He had been in failing health for several
years and seriously ill for the past few weeks. He was
admitted to the hospital, Tuesday of last week, after being
cared for at the home of Mrs. Bill Howell, for about 6 weeks.
Wilber G. Elliott was the son of John O. and Nancy Holder
Elliott was born October 28, 1879, in Jasper County. As a
young man he was married to Anna Esttla Emery, December 25,
1902 and 7 children were born to this union. The eldest, Ethal
May, departed this life January 1, 1906 at the age of 2 years.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Estella, on January 29,
1940. In May, 1947, he was married to Minnie Moorshead Curnow
of Breckenridge who preceded him in death October 23, 1959.
Mr. Elliott was a retired farmer. He had resided in
Breckenridge the past 6 years. He was a member of the Assembly
of God Church. Survivors include 4 sons, J. W. of Poloc, Frank
of Nettleton, Chester of Cameron and Emery of St. Joseph. 2
daughters Mrs. Eule Saip of Hamilton and Mrs. Lela Snider of
Braymer; 11 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, 2 nieces
and 1 nephew. Rev. Donald Crawford conducted the funeral
services Tuesday afternoon at the Assembly of God Church.
Burial was in the New Hope Cemetery.

WILBUR FRANKLIN ELLIOTT - 4/30/1907 to 4/10/1972
Wilbur Franklin Elliott, 64, of near Hamilton, who had been in
ill health for several years and a wheelchair invalid since
June of 1971, died in a Caldwell County ambulance at
Boonville, April 10, while enroute to the MU Medical Center in
Columbia. A son of Wilbur and Anna Estella Elliott, he was
born in Bonanza community southeast of Kingston and was a
farmer until his health failed. He is survived by his wife,
Mrs. Christina Elliott, of the home; 2 sons, Charles and Ray
Dean of Kansas City; 1 daughter, Mrs. Maxine Bell of Basehor,
Kansas; 3 brothers, J. W. Elliott of Polo, Chester Elliott of
Cameron and Emery of Breckenridge; and 5 grandchildren. The
funeral service was Wednesday at 2:30p at the Assembly of God
church in Hamilton conducted by Rev. John Mapplelink of
Cameron. Internment was in Highland Cemetery under the
direction of Bram.

Christina Elliott, 81, Hamilton, Missouri, died on Tuesday,
November 22, 1994, at a Kansas City, Kansas Hospital. Mrs.
Elliott, was born near Elmira, Missouri, May 17, 1913, and had
lived in Nettleton, Missouri for the past 50 years. She had
been a homemaker and was a member of the Assembly of God
Church. Mrs. Elliott was preceded in death by her husband,
Wilbur C., in 1972. Surviving are 2 sons; Charles of Kansas
City, Missouri; and Ray Dean of Ponca City, Oklahoma; a
daughter, Lena M. Bell, of Basehor, Kansas; a brother, Raymond
Brelsford of Lathrop, Missouri; a sister, Viola Woods of
Richmond, Missouri; 7 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
The funeral was held on November 26, at Bram Funeral Home with
burial in Highland Cemetery.

DEBORAH JEAN TAYLOR ELLIOTT - 12/25/1950 to 3/23/1994
Deborah Taylor Elliott, 43, of Ponca City, Oklahoma, died
Wednesday, March 23, at St. Joseph Medical Center, Ponca City.
She was born December 25, 1950, in Worchester, Massachusetts,
the daughter of Benjamin and Grace Taylor. In October, 1969,
she married Ray Elliott in Kansas City. Mrs. Elliott had lived
in Kansas City before moving to Ponca City, Oklahoma. She was
preceded in death by her grandparents. Surviving are her
husband, Ray Elliott, and 2 sons, Aaron and Raymond Elliott,
all of the home; her parents, Ben and Grace Taylor,
Harrisonville; 3 brothers, Benjamin Taylor, Taveriner,
Florida; Keith Raylor, Gladstone; and Logan Taylor,
Harrisonville; a sister, Joyce Burton, Harrisonville.
Graveside prayer services will be at 2:00p Saturday, April 9,
in the Orient Cemetery, Harrisonville.

Retha Blanch Elliott, 71, was born August 30, 1909, on a farm
north of Elmira, Missouri and died July 22, 1981, at St.
Luke's Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri. She was the oldest
daughter of Joseph and Cedia Sweatman Brelsford. She attended
Mound school. Retha joined the Baptist Church early in life
and was an active member at the time of her death. Retha was
united in marriage to J. W. Elliott on March 28, 1924. To this
union 4 children were born. Surviving is her husband, J. W.,
of the home at Polo; one son, Joe Elliott, Independence; 3
daugthters, Colene Clark, Hamilton; Luette McFall, Polo; Rita
Louise Feil, Cowgill; 2 sisters, Christina Elliott, Hamilton;
Viola McLallen, Richmond; 2 brothers, Milton Brelsford,
Cameron; and Raymond Brelsford, Lathrop; 11 grandchildren and
2 great grandchildren. The funeral service was held Saturday,
July 25 at 1:30p in the Cowgill Baptist Church with Rev. Alvin
McGill and Rev. Joe Porter officiating. Burial was in the
Prairie Ridge Cemetery near Polo.

BILLIE MARGARET TABLOR ELLIOTT - 2/24/1930 to 9/14/1989
Billie M. Elliott, 59, Cameron, Missouri, formerly of
Independence, died September 14, 1989, at Baptist Medical
Center. She was born in Henrietta in Ray County and lived in
Hardin, Missouri, before moving to Independence more than 30
years ago. She moved to Cameron 2 months ago. Mrs. Elliott was
a member of the Stone Church congregation of the RLDS.
Survivors include her husband, Joseph Elliott of the home, a
son, Terry J. Elliott, Cameron; 3 brothers, William Dove and
Gene Dove of Cameron and Dale Dove, NKC; 2 sisters, Bonnie
Slinger, Grandview, and Nellie Wyatt, KCK; 2 granddaughters.

WAYNE EDWIN FEIL - 3/8/1929 to 7/28/1998
Wayne Edwin Feil, age 69, of Cowgill, Missouri, died Tuesday,
July 28, 1998, at the Liberty Hospital in Liberty, Missouri.
He was born on March 8, 1929, in Braymer, Missouri, and had
lived in the Braymer and Cowgill areas all of his life. He was
united in marriage to Rita Elliott on March 17, 1952 in
Cowgill. She survives of the home. Wayne was a farmer and a
member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in
Richmond. He was a graduate of Braymer High School. He was
preceded in death by his parents, John and Ida Mae Feil, and 1
sister, Mary Louise Pickering. He is also survived by 4 sons,

JOSEPH HENRY SNIDER - 11/18/1908 to 7/24/1990
Joseph Henry Snider, 81, died July 24, 1990, in a nursing home
in Brymer, where he lived. He was born in Camden, Missouri and
lived in Breckenridge, Missouri, before moving to rural
Braymer in 1942. Mr. Snider was a retired farmer. Survivors
include his wife, Lela Elliott Snider, rural Braymer; 2
daughters, Joanna Moore, Orrick, in Ray County, and Charlotte
Soper, Milford, Nebraska; 3 sisters, Tina Head, Richland,
Missouri; Bertha Shultz, Chanute, Kansas; and Carrie Garst,
Braymer; and 5 grandchildren. Services will be at 2:00p
Saturday at the Pitts Chapel, Braymer; burial in the Evergreen
Cemetery, Braymer. Friends may call from 7-8p Friday at the
chapel.

JAMES CHESTERFIELD ELLIOTT - 10/7/1912 to 5/22/1978
James Chesterfield Elliott, 65, died Monday evening, May 22,
at the Cameron Community Hospital. Born October 7, 1912, near
Bonanza, he had been employed as a laborer in Cameron until
his retirement. He was preceded in death by his wife, Luena
Elliott. Survivors include 2 sisters, Eula Saip of Cameron,
and Lela Snider of Breckenridge, and 2 brothers, J. W. Elliott
of Polo and Emery Elliott of St. Joseph. The funeral was held
Friday at Poland Thompson Funeral Home in Cameron, with Rev.
John Mepplelink officiating. Burial was in Cameron Memory
Gardens.

EDWARD HENRY SAIP - 7/26/1897 to 2/21/1985
Edward Henry Saip, 83, Cameron, died Thursday at a hospital in
Cameron. He was born July 26, 1896, at Munden, Kansas, and had
moved to Cameron 20 years ago. Mr. Saip was a dispatcher for
the Consolidated Freight Company 8 years before retiring.
Earlier, he was a gas station attendant in Hamilton, Missouri,
for 23 years. He was a member of the Hamilton Methodist
Church. He leaves his wife, Mrs. Eula Saip of the home; a son
Jack Saip, San Francisco; a daughter, Mrs. Mary Ann Hahn,
Cameron; 2 sisters, Mrs. Francis Longwell, Belleville, Kansas;
and Mrs. Ella McChesney, Narka, Kansas; 8 grandchildren.
Services will be at 2:00p Monday at the Poland Thompson
Chapel, Cameron. Burial in the Cameron Memory Gardens.

ELMA ETOYL BURNS ELLIOTT - 10/22/1914 to 8/24/1997
Elma Etoyle Bruns Elliott, 82, of Polo, Missouri, died at
10:41p, Sunday, August 24, 1997, at the Ray County Memorial
Hospital in Richmond, Missouri. Mrs. Elliott was born October
22, 1914, near Orrick, Missouri, to Chester Lee and Velma
Caldwell Boyer McGinnis. She married Emil E. Bruns of Ray
County on October 22, 1936; he preceded her in death on
October 30, 1982. She later married J. W. Elliott of Polo,
Missouri, on August 14, 1985; he survives of the home. Other
survivors include one step-son, Joe Elliott of Hamilton,
Missouri; 3 step-daughters, Colene Clark and Luetta McFall of
Hamilton and Loise Feil of Cowgill, Missouri; 2 brothers,
Wayne McGinnis of Independence, Missouri and Bobby G. McGinnis
of Lebanon, Missouri; 1 sister, Edith Bellis of Camdenton,
Missouri; 10 step-grandchildren and 8 great
step-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. In addition to
her parents and first husband, she was preceded in death by 1
brother, Woodrow McGinnis; 1 sister, Imogene Bruns. Mrs.
Elliott was a member of the Cowgill Baptist Church in Cowgill,
Missouri. She lived near Richmond, Missouri in the Lillard
community before moving to Polo, Missouri.

WALLACE A. EMERY - 6/4/1885 to 4/11/1922
Wallace A. Emery, born June 4, 1885, died April 11, 1922. It
is believed that Wallace died in Excelsior Springs, Missouri.
The Excelsior Springs papers of 1921 and 1922 have vanished.
Very little is known about Wallace's family other than his
wife, Edna McLaughlin and son, Clude. It is believed that
Clyde married and had a son, Donald Emery. Wallace is buried
in Kingston Cemetery.

OLIVE C EMERY SADLER - 1/??/1887 to 3/??/1906
Olive C. Emery, born January, 1887, and died March, 1906. We
have been unable to locate an obituary for Olive. She married
Charley Sadler, January 1, 1906. We understand that Olive
waded snow in March to care for her mother, caught pneumonia
and passed away. Information that the same minister (Rev.
Shilling of Kingston) baptized, married her, and preached her
funeral all in the space of a few months. No record is
available of where she is buried.

BENJAMIN FRANKLIN EMERY - 8/8/1888 to 9/22/1958
Ben Emery, 70, died at his home southeast of Kingston, Monday
morning, September 22, 1958 after a long illness. His
daughter, Mrs. Dean Barnard, Mr. Barnard, and children resided
with him. Benjamin Franklin Emery, son of William A. and Mary
Katherine Emery, was born August 8, 1888, near Kingston and
died September 22, 1958 at his home after a long illness being
at the time of his death 70 years, 1 month, 14 days. Most of
his life was spent in Caldwell county where he was engaged in
farming. Early in his life he united with the Christian Union
Church at Bonanza. December 5, 1918, he was married to Myrtle
Coshow and to this union 5 children were born, Beryl Franklin
Emery, of Kansas City; Walter Harley Emery, deceased;
Katherine Mayes of Kingston; Nelda Bassett of Stewartsville;
and Opal Barnard of Kingston. Also surviving are 4 grandsons,
5 granddaughters, 2 granddaughters died in infancy; 1 brother,
Homer Emery of Ogallala, Nebraska; and 1 sister, Mrs. Jennie
Palmer, of Anaheim, California. June 27, 1940, Mrs. Emery died
leaving the 5 children for him to rear. Two years later, in
1943, a son, Harley Emery died. Funeral services were held
Wednesday afternoon at 2:00p at the Christian church conducted
by Rev. Zada Jones. Burial was in the Kingston Cemetery under
the direction of Clark Funeral Service.

MYRTLE MAE COSHOW EMERY - 5/22/1891 to 6/27/1940
Myrtle Mae Coshow Emery, daughter of Frank and Emma Coshow,
was born May 22, 1891 in Kingston, and passed away in the
Trinity Luthern Hospital in Kansas City, June 27, 1940 at the
age of 49 years, 1 month, 3 days. She grew to womanhood in the
vicinity of her birth place, a generous and friendly young
girl, who married in her youth to Benjamin Emery on December
5, 1918. To this union, 5 children were born. Namely Beryl
Franklyn, Walter Harley, Emma Katherine, Nelda Mae, and Opal
Irene, all of the home that survive. Besides her husband, she
leaves to mourn her passing, her mother and 2 brothers, John
Franklin Coshow and Walter Robert Coshow of Kingston. Her
father preceded her in death 2 years ago. Myrtle was converted
and united in the Christian faith during her girlhood days and
continued in her faith throughout her short stay where her
presence will be sadly missed in her home, in the community
and by her many friends. Everything was done to keep her in
our midst that loving hands could do, but God knew best. She
was an affectionate wife, a kind and loving mother and
generous good neighbor. Funeral services were held from the
Kingston Christian Church, Saturday afternoon, June 29,
conducted by the Rev. W. E. Barksdale. Burial was in the
Kingston Cemetery, in charge of the Clark Funeral Service.

BERYL FRANKLIN EMERY - 3/21/1921 to 8/28/1995
Beryl Franklin Emery was born March 21, 1921, near Kingston,
Missouri, the son of Benjamin Franklin and Myrtle Mae Coshow
Emery. Beryl passed away unexpectedly, August 28, at his home
in Kansas City. He was 74 years old. He had lived in Kansas
City since 1945. He was a graduate of Cowgill, Missouri High
School. Beryl had retired from Clark Oil Company in Kansas
City after 45 years. He was a veteran of the Navy twice, a
member of Ducks Unlimited. At the present time he owned
Emery's Used Store at 55th and Troost in Kansas City. He was a
member of the Tabernacle Baptist Church at 27th and Holmes.
Beryl was married to Wilma Margaret “Polly” Brown of Orrick,
on November 12, 1949. He preceded on May 3, 1977. He is
survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Benny Beryl and
Sharon Emery of Kansas City; his close companion, Helen Marie
Perry of the home. Other survivors include 2 sisters, Mrs.
Opal Pickering, Hamilton; and Mrs. Nelda Mae Bassett. He was
preceded in death by his parents, 1 brother, Walter Harley
Emery, and 1 sister, Emma Katherine Mayes. It was the family's
desire that the funeral services for Beryl be held Thursday,
at 10:30a at the Gowing Chapel, with the Rev. Gary Roberts,
officiating. Musical selections given by Mrs. Thelma Norris,
organist. Interment in South Point Cemetery, Orrick, Missouri.

WILMA MARGARET BROWN EMERY - 12/16/1916 to 5/3/1977
Wilma M. Emery was born December 16, 1916, southeast of
Orrick, the daughter of Willie Brown of Orrick and Maggie Mae
Elliott Brown of Rayville. She passed away Tuesday, May 3, at
the Truman Medical Center. She was 61 years old at the time of
her death. She was a member of the Christian Union Church
southwest of Orrick, and a housewife. On November 12, 1949,
she was married to Beryl F. Emery of Kansas City. She is
survived by her husband Beryl of the home, 2 sons, Robert
Black of Atchison, Kansas and Benny Beryl Emery of the home. 2
brothers, William Clell Brown and George R. Brown, both of
Excelsior Springs and 1 sister, Mrs. Lois Downing of Omaha,
Nebraska. One grandchild, she was preceded in death by her
parents and 1 sister, Mary Francis Schanek. It was the
family's desire that the funeal services for Mrs. Emery be
held at 11:00a, Friday at the Gowing Chapel with the Rev. C.
L. Duxbury officiating. Musical selections given by Mrs.
Bonita Albertson organist and soloist. Interment in South
Point Cemetery, Orrick.

WALTER HARLEY EMERY - 3/31/1924 to 8/23/1943
Walter Harley Emery, the youngest son of Benjamin Emery and
Myrtle Mae Emery, was born South of Kingston, on March 31,
1924, and came to his untimely death on August 23, 1943, at
the age of 19 years, 4 months and 23 days. He was schooled and
reared to young manhood in the Kingston community and grew in
people's hearts so that his remarkable good health and manly
strength made his tragic death so shocking to the community.
At the age of 15, his pal and mother, Myrtle Mae Emery,
preceded him in death, thus he shared more of the burden with
his father, brother and young sisters, in keeping their home.
He was a true soldier of the home front. One on whose efforts
will be sadly missed in the community. Harley always did more
than his part cheerfully and willingly with a smile. He leaves
to mourn his passing, his father, brother Beryl Franklin
Emery, third class seaman of the United States Navy; sisters,
Emma Katherine, Nelda Mae and Opal Irene Emery of the home; a
devoted grandmother, Mrs. Emma Coshow; several aunts, uncles,
cousins and other relatives besides a host of friends numbered
by all who knew him. The funeral service was held from the
Christian Church at Kingston Friday, August 27th, at 2:30p
conducted by Rev. James Heath. The body was laid to rest in
the Kingston Cemetery, under the direction of Clarks.

EMMA KATHERINE EMERY MAYES - 9/29/1925 to 3/23/1990
Emma Katherine Mayes, 64, Lawson, Missouri, died Friday
morning, March 23, 1990, at Liberty Hospital in Liberty,
Missouri. Mrs. Mayes was born in Caldwell county and lived
most of her life in the Polo, Missouri area. Mrs. Mayes was a
member of the Kingston Christian and the VFW No. 4179
Auxiliary, both of Kingston, Missouri. She married Clifford
Mayes on November 24, 1947, in Hamilton, Missouri. He
survives. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Opal Faye.
Additional survivors are 3 daughters, Patricia A. Taff of
Amarillo, TX.; Linda Mayes of Lawson and Barbara J. Eckles of
Kansas City, Missouri; a brother, Beryl Emery, Kansas City; 2
sisters, Nelda Basett of Independence, Missouri and Opal
Pickering of Hamilton, Missouri; and 6 grandchildren. The
funeral was March 26 at Baily Funeral Home in Polo, Missouri.
Burial was in the Kingston Cemetery, Kingston, Missouri.

HOMER E. EMERY - 4/24/1890 to 12/31/1973
Funeral services were held Monday, December 31, from the
Bracken Memorial Chapel on Ogallala for Homer E. Emery, 83, a
resident of the Ogallala community since 1942. Mr. Emery died
Saturday morning at Greeley, Colorado. The Rev. Stanley D.
Rider officiated at the services with burial in the Ogallala
Cemetery. He was born April 24, 1890 in Caldwell County,
Missouri, the son of William and Mary Emery. He grew to young
manhood and received his education at the place of birth. On
September 3, 1911, he married Cora Senter at Clay Center,
Kansas. The couple made their first home at Concordia, Kansas,
where they remained until moving to Excelsior Springs,
Missouri, in 1915. They moved to Ogallala in 1942 and had been
residents of this community since that time. His wife preceded
him in death in February of this year. Mr. Emery constructed
and operated the Emery Hotel, now known as the Midwest Motel,
and was engaged in that business until his retirement in 1954.
He is survived by 2 sons, Harold of the Boulder, Colorado, and
Lawrence of Greeley, Colorado, a daughter, Mrs. Maxine Hope of
Excelsior Springs, Missouri; and by 6 grandchildren and 9
great-grandchildren.

MAXINE LUCILLE EMERY HOPE - 2/24/1915 to 10/9/1997
Maxine Lucille Emery Hope, 82, Excelsior Springs, Missouri,
died October 9, at the Excelsior Springs Medical Center.
Funeral services were October 11, at the Prichard Funeral
Home, Excelsior Springs. Burial in the Masonic Cemetery,
Excelsior Springs. The family suggests contributions to the
Barbee Memorial Presbyterian Church, Excelsior Springs. Mrs.
Hope was born on February 24, 1915, in Concordia, Kansas, the
daughter of Homer and Coral Senter Emery. On September 3,
1934, she was married to Virgil Hope, who preceded her in
death on February 2, 1993. Mrs. Hope was a licensed funeral
director and with her husband owned and operated the Hope
Funeral Home in Excelsior Springs, retiring in 1971. She was a
member of the Barbee Memorial Presbyterian Church and the
CJPEO Excelsior Springs. She is survived by 2 daughters, Bette
Carol Tompkins and Peggy Suzanne Babb, both of Excelsior
Springs; 5 grandchildren, including Chris Tompkins, Excelsior
Springs, Robert L. Babb, Kearney, Beth Babb, Excelsior Springs
and 5 great grandchildren.
