Research Note | Recently I received this photo of 6 men on horseback. I have no idea who they are. The only identification is written in pencil on the back: "Mrs. Tabitha Davidson, Rocky, McDonald Co., MO"
They are well dressed, all but one wearing vests. Horses are fine mounts. Two have lariats showing and I would presume the others do also. Could they be members of a posse? One in the middle seems to have a badge but I can't make out any writing on it. Tabitha's maiden name was Howell. In 1850 she was living with the Joshua Briley family in Perry Co., Tennessee. She came to Barry Co., before 1855 when she married Isaac Bell McGlothlin. After he died, she married Cyrus Davidson in 1870. Tabitha died in Barry County in 1925 and is buried in Rocky Comfort Cemetery. Tabitha's brother, William Howell, was living with her in Barry Co., in 1860, but in Williamson Co., Texas in 1870. It's possible that he sent the picture to her, so it could be a group of men from Texas. Since it is to her name as Davidson, it would have to be after her marriage to Cyrus in January 1870. Maybe someone can identify them. |
