Mrs. Merl Wright widow of Andy Wright who died in November 1969, died at St. Francis hospital in Wichita at 11:40 p. m. Friday.

On November 14, 1929 she organized Merl’s Chapel church. She was a correspondent for the Cassville Republican and other area papers for several years before moving to Wichita.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Merl’s Chapel church, conducted by Sister Jeffries, assisted by the Rev. John Swaffer of Monett.

She leaves a son, Glendon Wright, with whom she had lived at Wichita; two brothers, Harlan Robberson of Hemet, California, and Ross Robberson of Purdy; six sisters, Mrs. Hazel Swaffar of Monett, Mrs. Ruby Henderson of Hemet, Calif., Mrs. Willie Robberson and Mrs. Eula Gates of Purdy, Mrs. Marzelle Arnaud of Monett, and Mrs. Erma Swaffar of Torrence, Calif.; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Cassville, Mo.- The Rev. Merl Wright, 73, of Wichita, Kansas, a former Barry county resident, died at 11:40 p.m. Friday at St. Francis Hospital in Wichita after a short illness.

She was born June 3, 1903, near Cassville. After her ordination, she and Winford Davis established Merl’s Chapel Church on Nov. 14, 1929, north of Cassville. After the death of her husband, Andy Wright, in November 1969, she moved to Wichita.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Merl’s Chapel. The Rev. Opal Jeffreys and the Rev. John Swaffer will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery here under the direction of Axley’s Culver Funeral Service.
