Headline | WASHBURN BUSINESS MAN PASSES AWAY Merchant There Most of His Life, Funeral Wednesday |
Text | Robert Windes, widely known Barry county business man, and a merchant in Washburn nearly all of his life, passed away at his home there shortly after mid-night Saturday night. Mr. Windes had been in failing health for the past few years, but had not been considered seriously ill but a few months, and was confined to his bed a much shorter time. Death resulted from a complication of troubles. He was 67 years old. Mr. Windes was a son of the late Frank Windes one of Barry county’s early and successful business men and one of her most substantial farmers. He was born at Washburn and lived there all of his life. He learned the mercantile business from his father and when his father died, he carried on the business in his own name. He was married to Miss Gertrude Black of Washburn in 1894. Surviving are his widow, three sons, Frank, Graley, and Dewey; and one daughter, Mrs. Edd Morrow, of Buffalo, Mo.; one brother, Harry Windes now of Rogers, and four sisters; Mrs. Dora Campbell; Mrs. Chas. Taylor, Mrs. Walter Stephens, and Mrs. Zoe Hefley. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the home in Washburn, conducted by Chas Vanzandt of Exeter. Burial was in Washburn Prairie cemetery, with the W. D. Koon undertakers of Cassville in charge.
