Obit For Donald Wayne Warner

Text Donald Wayne Warner, 85, of Monett, passed away Sunday, March 11, 2012, in University of Missouri Medical Center, Columbia. He was born April 11, 1926, in Purdy, the son of Thomas Albert and Lucy Mae (Sass) Warner. On Oct. 31, 1950, he was united in marriage to Dorothy Starkey, who preceded him in death on March 3, 1992. Also preceding him in death were his parents; a son-in-law, Tim Sosebee; three brothers, Carl, Gerald and Earl Warner; and one sister, Esther West. On May 22, 2001, he married Evelyn (Hollings-worth) who survives.

Additional survivors include: two sons, Robert J. Warner and his wife, Pauline, of Whiteland, Ind., and Skip L. Warner and his wife, Cia, of Springfield, Ohio; one daughter, Sherry Ann (Warner) Sosebee, of Albert Lea, Minn.; one step-son, Richard Stansbury and his wife, Janette, of Cassville; one step-daughter, Debbie Ray and her husband, Phillip, of Monett; eight grandchildren; many step-grandchildren; and great-grandchildren. During World War II, he served on the USS West Virginia, BB-48, entering the war in the Philippines and ending in Tokyo Bay at the surrender of the Japanese. After 23 years of service, he retired from the U.S. Navy as master chief in 1968. After his retirement from the Navy, he worked for Baxter Laboratories in research and development, from which he also retired. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Monett and American Legion Post 118 in Cassville. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville. Minister Gary Reed will conduct the services. Burial with military honors will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Cassville. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today (Wednesday) in Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville.

Donna Cooper's Note: Don Warnerwas a great helper of the Barry County web site. He took cemetery photos, posted obits, recorded the data on the wall of the Barry County Court house and did many other tasks to help. His work will be remembered and he will be missed by his fellow researchers.
