Former County Official Dies Of Heart Attack Early Sat. Morning
Text Funeral services for Judge John R. Wallen, 85 years old who died at his home here about 7:00 Saturday morning following a heart attack, were held at the Baptist Church Monday afternoon, with the Revs. H. W. Chaney, C. F. Siler and Charles Vanzandt officiating.

Although he had been in retirement for the past fifteen years, Judge Wallen at one time was active in the affairs of Barry County and for many years taught school. He was born May 17, 1873, near Cassville and had resided in Cassville area all his life.

He began a career of school teaching in the 1890’s and at one time served as County Commissioner of Schools, which is the same as the present office of County Superintendent of Schools. In 1922 he was elected Probate Judge of Barry County and served one term. He was active in Republican party circles here for many years. A member of the Cassville First Baptist Church, Judge Wallen served as a deacon. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and Odd Fellows Lodge.

Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Bessie Wallen; a son, the Rev. Dr. John Herbert Wallen of Bakersfield, Calif.; and a daughter, Mrs. Jewell Case of Whittier, California.

Burial was in the Oak Hill Cemetery at Cassville under the direction of the Williamson Funeral Home with deacons of the First Baptist Church here serving as active and honorary pallbearers.
