Headline | MAN FOUND DEAD IN PASTURE |
Text | The body of Charles J. Vest, 65 year-old Bachelor, who lived three and one-half miles southwest of Lanagan, was found early Thursday morning, June 27, lying in a pasture near his home. George Bartlemess, a neighbor, who had not seen him about a week, became alarmed at his absence and started a search of the premises. He found the body in a pasture a short distance from his house in a decomposed state. Coroner Lee Carnell was summoned as soon as the discovery was made and after an examination, he expressed the opinion that Mr. Vest had died from natural causes some five or six days prior to the discovery. The body was in a badly decomposed state, with the arms, head and other portions eaten away. There was no evidence of foul play and questioning of the neighbors convinced the coroner that no one would likely have any motive for killing him. A bridle, which was found near the body, indicated that he was probably on the way to the pasture after a horse when death overtook him. Owing to the condition of the body, the coroner and neighbors decided upon immediate burial and the body was wrapped in bed clothing and buried near the spot where he was found. A brother, J. R. Vest, and his son, E. W. Vest, arrived here Thursday afternoon after being notified of his death. Besides the above mentioned brother, he is survived by another brother, W. T. Vest of Kansas City, and a sister, Dean Vest, of Montana. Pineville Democrat. |
