Text | Oscar Allen Van Zandt, 94, of Seligman, died December 6 at Bates Medical Center in Bentonville, Arkansas. Mr. Van Zandt was born February 22, 1906, in the Maple Grove community, the son of James Allen and Francis (Weathers) Van Zandt. He was a lifelong resident of the Maple Grove community. He was a farmer. He was director of the Maple Grove Rural School for 20 years, a member of the Barry County Agriculture Stabilization and Conservation Service for 25 years, a member of the Barry County Republican Committee for several years, and a member of the Greasy Creek Road Commission for 18 years. He was a member of Maple Grove Church of Christ. He married Etta Lilly Fletcher on June 21, 1929. Survivors include two sons, Carrol Van Zandt and Bill Van Zandt, both of the Maple Grove community; five grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by six brothers, Lige, Amos, Elmer, Roy, Willis, and Vernie Van Zandt; and three sisters, Anna Cline, Viola Van Zandt, and Zola Fletcher. Services will be 10 a.m. tomorrow, December 9, at Williamson Chapel in Cassville with Ken West, minister, and Ronald Cline officiating. Burial will be in Hickman Cemetery in Washburn under the direction of Williamson Funeral Home of Cassville. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today, December 8, at the funeral home. |
