She was born February 20, 1933, in St Paul, Kansas, the daughter of Arthur and Nettle (Dawson) Pierce. On November 2, 1951, she was united in marriage to Nick Joe Vanderpool, who preceded her in death on April 13, 1998. She was also preceded in death by her parents. Joan received her education in Walnut School in Kansas and graduated from Girard, Kansas High School. In 1951, after her marriage to Nick Joe, they moved to Missouri to make their home and ran Nick’s Caravan West, the Rainbow Dinner House then owned and operated Granny Jo’s Café in Purdy, Missouri. Joan worked at Wal-Mart in the shoe department for a time and later as a greeter. She was of the Baptist faith. Two sons, two daughters, two brothers, one sister and eleven grandchildren and eleven great- grandchildren survive her. Services were held at Fohn Funeral Home in Cassville Mo. on Saturday- February 21, at 10:30 A.M., 2009. Officiated by Rev. Glenn Erwin and Rev. J.R. Day.
