Obit For George Corneilius Utter

Text George Corneilius Utter, 92, of Wheaton, passed away Monday, April 7, 2014, in his home.

He was born June 20, 1921, in Wheaton, the son of Henry I. and Lula E. (Nichels) Utter. On Nov. 10, 1947, in Joplin, he was united in marriage to Opal Lafern Beam, who survives.

Additional survivors include: one son, Carmen Wesley Utter and his wife, Teresa, of Wheaton; two daughters, Faith Dutra and her husband, Ed, of Mannford, Okla., and Aleta Motes and her husband, Russell, of Sarcoxie; one sister, Jane Jones, of Exeter; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his parents; one daughter, Gloria Anne and four sisters, Ruth Burdette, Nora Levich, Dorothy Snider and Opal Utter.

He grew up in Wheaton and then joined the U.S. Air Force, serving during World War II, Korean War and Vietnam War. He was an air plane mechanic and retired from the Air Force in 1963. He was a member of Wheaton Church of Christ, VFW Post 4207 and American Legion Post 118.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in McQueen Funeral Home, Wheaton. Steve Spillman will conduct the services. Burial with military honors will be at Muncie Chapel Cemetery, Wheaton.

The family will receive friends from 5 until 6:30 p.m. today (Wednesday) in McQueen Funeral Home, Wheaton.
