Headline | Judge Richard Tucker Passes Away |
Text | It is with a sad heart that we chronicle the death of Judge Richard
Tucker, at his home near Golden, Monday, Nov. 6, 1905, after a lingering
illness of about two years, age 65, 9 months, and 19 days. He was born in Bond County, IL, Jan. 18th, 1840,and went to Madison County, AR, in 1851, to Barry County in 1852, with his parents, and settled in Roaring River Township, where he grew to manhood. At the commencement of the war he enlisted and served under the late Col. R. W. Fyan, whom he always held in the highest esteem, and was mustered out of service in 1864 in St. Louis. He served as Constable of Roaring River township from 1866 to 1870, and was deputy sheriff under the late Capt. John H. Moore. He was elected Associate County Judge from the Eastern district three times and served the people well. In 1861, he married Miss Lewis to whom were born three children. They are: Wm. and Jas. Tucker of Golden and a daughter Mrs. Lee of Oklahoma. In the death of Dick Tucker, Barry County has lost a citizen that will long be remembered by our people. He was a man of firm convictions, stood by what he believed to be right. There was a speck of hypocrisy about him, and if he was your friend you knew it. He had the full confidence and respect of all his acquaintances. He was ever ready to assist those in needy circumstances and never turned them away. He was a splendid husband and an indulgent father. Politically he was a Republican. A member of the Mason, I.O.O.F., and G. A. R. Many years ago he moved to Kansas and remained about one year and then moved back to near Golden. He was a man of remarkable ability, never having the school advantages, in his early life. Had the citizens of Cassville known of his death many would have attended the funeral. |
