| Text | Walter J. Townsend, 86, of Monett, died August 14 at Red Rose Inn in Cassville. Mr. Townsend was born December 1, 1920, in Hennessey, Oklahoma, the son of Wallace and Rosie Patrick Townsend. He had lived in Wentworth prior to moving to Monett and was a gardener. His wife, Anna Prier Townsend, preceded him in death March 27, 2002. Survivors include two daughters, two sons, five step-daughters, four step-sons, one brother, of Carney, Oklahoma; one sister, of Pierce City; 21 grandchildren and several great grandchildren. Services will be 2 p.m. tomorrow, August 17, at Lakin Chapel in Pierce City with Rev. Walter Hamer officiating. Burial will be in Monett IOOF Cemetery under the direction of Lakin Funeral Home of Pierce City. Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. today, August 16, at the funeral home. |
