Text | Jas. Thomas died Monday, February 3rd at the home of his son, Archie Thomas in South Monett, age 106 years, 5 months and 20 days. Funeral services were held at the residence Tuesday morning at 9:30 o'clock conducted by Rev. J. B. Jordan, of the M. E. Church South. Interment made in the Henderson Cemetery, five miles south of Monett. Monett Times James' will: Know all men by these presents: That I, James Thomas of Monett, of the County of Barry, State of MO being of sound mind and memory, do make and publish this my last will and testament in manner and form following: (1) I direct that all my just debts my funeral expenses and the expenses of my last illness be first paid. (2) I give and bequeath unto my oldest son, James Lafayette Thomas, the sum of one dollar and the farm of forty acres which I owned in McDonald Co., MO, and which I deeded and gave to my son James Lafayette during my life time, I want him to have that farm and everything on it and that is to be his sole share out of my estate. (3) To my son, Calvin Thomas, I give and bequeath unto him the sum of fifty dollars and the house I built for him on his own farm. I want him to have that house and everything contained therein. (4) To my son Archie Thomas I give and bequeath unto him the sum of one dollar and house I built for him in Monett, MO on his own lot. I want him to have that house and everything contained therein and my bedding contained therein, I give to his wife, Ella Thomas. (5) To my daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth Wiggins I give and bequeath the sum of one dollar and lastly all the rest, residue and remainder of my estate whatsoever, real personally and mixed and wherever situate, I give, devise and bequeath, unto three of my children, Calvin Thomas, Archie Thomas and Mrs. Elizabeth Wiggins to be divided equally between them share and share alike. And Last I hereby constitute appoint Calvin Thomas and Archie Thomas to be the executors of this my last will and testament, revoking and annulling all former wills by me made and ratifying and confirming this and no other to be my last will. |
