Text | William F. Thomas died at the home of his son, Rev. J. F. Thomas of Crane, Mo., March 29th, 1918, age 89 years, 6 months and 25 days. He was born in North Carolina and raised in Alabama, united in marriage to Phoebe C. Jaggers, and came to Missouri in 1852. To them were born 7 sons and 6 daughters. His wife, departed this life over 23 years ago. Five of his children preceded him to the glory world. The following children remain to mourn his departure: Rev. J. F. Thomas, D. S. Thomas, Mrs. Jane Hilton, and Mrs. Ben Parvin of Crane, Mo., Mrs. Malissa Biggs, Oklahoma, J. H. Thomas, Tar River, Okla., who came to see his father and stayed and helped care for him a week; Wm. R. Thomas, Leann, Mo., Mrs. Laney McKinzie of Madry, Mo. William F. Thomas was well known, having lived in the neighborhood of Leann since 1852. He served three years in the Civil War. He was a faithful member of the Methodist church, and a good citizen, and often said he wanted to die without an enemy which we think he did. And his life should be a pattern for others. Funeral services were conducted at Leann by Rev. Ab Bowling, where a large crowd of relatives and friends were waiting to pay their last tribute of respect, after which he was lid to rest in the Leann cemetery to await the resurrection morning. |
