Text | Joe Collens Tate, 77, of Seligman, passed away on Friday, Nov. 22, 2013, at his home. He was born in Osage, Ark., on July 13, 1936, the son of Wilburn J. and Minnie I. (Phillips) Tate. He attended school at Golden, and Cassville. On Nov. 21, 1958, he was united in marriage to Norma I. Pippin, in Cassville, who survives. He lived in Kansas City, and worked at Fisher Body in Leeds. After becoming disabled, he moved his family back to Seligman to make their home. He owned the DX Station in Seligman, and helped out with the Seligman Boxing Club. He was a member and trustee for the Rock Springs Church in Seligman, where he drove the church van. Additional survivors include: two sons, J.C. Tate and his wife, Cathy, and Johnny Tate and his wife, Kristy; two daughters, Glenda Leachman and her husband, Jeff, and Sheila Black and her husband, Rod, all of Seligman; four brothers, Melvin Tate and his wife, Marie, of Tracy, Calif., Herbert Tate, of Rogers, Ark., Edward Tate and his wife, Shirley, of Seligman, and Jerry Tate, of Holden; two sisters, Mary Periman and her husband JB, of Kingsville, and Beverly Ball, of Eagle Rock; 14 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Floyd Tate, Troy Tate, James Tate, and Eugene Tate; and one sister, Dorothy Periman. Funeral services were held Tuesday at White Funeral Home with Pastor Perry Morgan and Pastor Glenn Erwin officiating. Burial followed at Kings Cemetery in Seligman.
