Obit For Martin B. Tarvin

Text M. B. Tarvin of Granby, died Aug. 30, age 72 years, 2 months and 20 days. He was born in Indiana, June 24, 1848.

He married Miss Martha J. Tar, Nov. 20, 1870, and to the union one daughter was born, who survives the father.

In 1869, he united with the United Brethern Church.

He left two brothers, R. D. Tarvin of near Wheaton, and Geo. Tarvin of Illinois and two sisters, Mesdames Ellen Compton of St. Joe, Mo., and Ann Phrasher of Indiana. His wife died a few months ago. Funeral services were conducted and the remains were interred in a cemetery near Granby.

Research Note: Martin B. Tarvin was born in Vigo Co., IN, a son of George Washington and Amelia Jane Bowles and he according to his obit he married Martha Tar.

His death certificate reads that he was born in IN, and that both of his parents were born in IN. His mother is given as Emilia Boles.

He is listed as a widower and as born June 22, 1848, age 72 years, 2 months and 6 days old.

Lizzie Youngblood, R. R. 1, Granby, MO, was the informant and he was buried in Granby, in Newton County, in the Crouch Cemetery.

The date of his death is given as Aug. 30, 1920 and died in Newton County, in Granby. Death Certificate # 27525.

FindAGrave has him buried in Greenwood Cemetery in Diamond, Newton County, not Crouch as the death certificate reports. His wife's stone reads that she died March 28, 1920 and her name was Martha J. Tarvin, born April 15, 1848.
