Obit For Anna Marguerite (Metcalf) Swaffer

Text Anna Marguerite Swaffar, 84, of Independence, formerly of Pierce City and Purdy, died at 8:55 p.m. February 14 at Trinity Lutheran Hospital in Kansas City following a long illness.

Mrs. Swaffar was born February 5, 1916, in Powell, the daughter of Elijah and Ova (Harrell) Metcalf. She moved to Independence in 1954 from Pierce City. She was a retired civil service clerk and had also taught school in Sarcoxie. She was a member of the Arnhart Baptist Church near Purdy.

She married Oran "Bo" Swaffar on October 2, 1938, in Pierce City, and he preceded her in death April 25, 1977.

Survivors include one son of Independence, one daughter of Sedalia; two sisters, of Pierce City and of Monett; four grandchildren, of Kansas City, of Anaheim, California, and of Whittier, California; and three great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one son, Stanley Swaffar.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, February 19, at Bennett-Wormington Chapel in Monett. Burial will be in Arnhart Cemetery near Purdy under the direction of Bennett-Wormington Funeral Home of Monett.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. tomorrow, February 18, at the funeral home.
