Melba Evelyn (Farwell) Sullivan, 89, of Cassville, passed away Sunday, Nov. 28, 2010, in Red Rose Health and Rehabilitation Center, Cassville.

She was born March 28, 1921, in the Roach Community at Eagle Rock, the daughter of Otto and Mae (Ireland) Farwell. On July 16, 1942, in Cassville, she was united in marriage to J. Raymond Sullivan, who preceded her in death on May 19, 1952.

Survivors include: one son, John Sullivan and his wife, Janet, of Cassville; two daughters, Sharon Coker and her husband, Norman, of St. Louis, and Patty Gardner and her husband, Bob, of Springfield; two brothers, Warren Farwell and his wife, Rae, of Plattsburg, and Tom Farwell and his wife, Mary, of Green Castle; one sister, Shirlie Abbet, of Lebanon; two sisters-in-law, Georgia (Farwell) Hart, of Eagle Rock, and Wilena Farwell, of Republic; seven grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Besides her husband, she was also preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Forrest and Donald Farwell and one granddaughter.

She attended grade school at Eagle Rock and graduated with the Class of 1939 from Cassville High School. She continued her education by attending Springfield College of Commerce and returned to Cassville to work for the County Agent. In 1952, she worked for Mitchell Insurance Company, then Matt Sims in the Treasurer's office and was a secretary to the superintendent of Cassville Schools. On Feb. 1, 1960, she started working at Commerce Bank (then Barry County Bank) and continued her employment until her retirement on March 1, 1990. She accepted Christ and was baptized May, 1951, in Jefferson City. She was a member of the First Christian Church, Cassville, and served as church treasurer for 12 years and church secretary for over 40 years, and Sunday school secretary and treasurer for many years.

Funeral services were held today (Wednesday) in Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville. Rev. Bert Ward and Minister Sid Allsbury conducted the services. Burial was at Oak Hill Cemetery, Cassville.
