Text | This community was shocked by the news that Paul Stumpff well known and respected resident of Cato, died from injuries when he was stuck by a falling tree while cutting timber with a nephew, Donald Stumpff in woodland near his home. The accident happened about 3 o’clock Thursday afternoon. Mr. Stumpff was brought to the Barry County Hospital by Virgil Goold, a neighbor. He died about 15 minutes later form injuries to his back and neck. He was native of this section and was held in the highest esteem by all who knew him as a good man excellent husband, father and neighbor. His passing will leave a void in the community where he had lived his life. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Pluma Stumpff and six small sons ranging in the age from 10 years down. They are Richard Paul, Larry Gene, Marlin Keath, Wendell Earl, Jerry Lon and Lonnie Jay. Other survivors are: two brothers, Ernest and Olen Stumpff, Cato and a sister Mrs. Troy Short, West plains. Funeral services for this fine citizen were held at Clio Sunday afternoon by Brother M. Woodward of the Church of Christ. Burial was in the cemetery there under direction of Culver Funeral Home.
