Text | Death has again visited one our old and esteemed families and carried away the queen of the household to realms of eternal bliss, as a reward for a well spent life here on earth. Her life is worthy of emulation, because of the sweet characteristics displayed by a loving wife and mother, who has filled her duties toward them well and truly. She was an esteemed and highly respected woman, because she possessed the priceless jewels of splendid womanhood.
Mrs. Susan E. Stephens beloved wife of Thos. J. Stephens an old and esteemed citizen of this county, died at their home midway between this city and Exeter, Wednesday morning, Dec. 19, 1917, of cancer of the face, aged 77 years, 19 months and 3 days. Miss Susan E. Price was born in Tennessee, and was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Charles Price, who moved to Barry County, in about 1855, and her residence has been continuous in this county. On arriving at the age of womanhood, she and Thos. J. Stephens were married and only one son, Oscar Stephens was born of the marriage. Her only living sister is Mrs. Sidney Antle, and two other sisters, Mrs. Jas. D. Wooten and Mrs. Jackson McCary having died many years ago. She had been a member of the Methodist Church for years and died in that faith. Rev. J. T. Brattin an old friend of the family, conducted funeral services at Corinth Church Thursday at 2 p.m., after which the remains were laid to rest in the cemetery there. |
