Text | Pharis Jackson Stevens [sic] Jr., 62, Exeter, died at 1:06 a.m. Saturday, April 6, 1985, in the Veterans Administration Medical Center, Fayetteville, Arkansas, where he had been a patient for a week, following a long illness. Stephens was born May 29, 1922, in Exeter. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in Europe during and in World War II. He was a retired farmer and construction worker. He married Dafner Lee Martin September 27, 1967, in Cassville. She survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Jackie Crowe and Mrs. Kathy Kasey, both of Southwest City; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Loretta Ellis and Mrs. Linda Mattingly, both of Exeter; a stepson, Junior Box, Butterfield; a brother, Marve Stephens, Exeter; four sisters, Jessie Debross, Monett, Bonnie Bradford, Bell, California, Fredaline Smith, Fresno, California, and Ruby Stoops, San Fernando, California; 14 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Services were at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Axley's Culver's Chapel, Cassville. Rev. Hugh Higgs will officiate. Burial was in Maplewood Cemetery. |
