Text | After being ill of pneumonia for more than a week, Mrs. Susana Stapleton, passed away at her home southeast of this city, Thursday, Feb. 3, age 78 years, 8 months and 28 days. Mrs. Stapleton had been an exceptionally strong woman and had enjoyed good health even in her old age. Her wonderful power of endurance enabled her to endure the dreaded disease beyond the expectations of her physician and children and neighbors. Mrs. Susanna (Sullens) Stapleton was born in Texas County, Mo., May 6, 1837. She was first married to Calvin Buckner. He died in 1868. To them seven children were born, only two of whom are living: Mrs. Rachel Northen of Raymond, Wash., and Mrs. Meda King of Springfield. She was married to W. A. Miller, June 21, 1873. To this marriage three children were born, all of whom are living: Mrs. Maggie Northcutt of Seligman, Ad Miller with whom his mother lived and Mrs. Charlotte Edens, wife of Orville Edens, southwest of this city. Mr. Miller died Oct. 21, 1882. She was married to John Stapleton, a number of years later. Mr. Stapleton died about 9 years ago. She professed faith in Christ in 1855 and united with the Baptist Church of which she had remained a faithful member until death. The funeral was held at the Corinth Baptist Church Friday afternoon, conducted by Revs. J. T. Brattin and L. R. Lamb. Her body was laid to rest in the cemetery nearby. In the death of Mrs. Stapleton, a loving and devoted mother, a kind generous and highly esteemed neighbor and friend and an excellent citizen has passed to her reward. The community in which she lived and where she was beloved has suffered a distinct loss. |
