Text | Sterling Price Stapleton, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Stapleton, was born near Pea Ridge, Ark., Nov. 13, 1861, and passed away at his home in Exeter, Mo., after a lingering illness, Sept 25, 1938, age 76 years, 10 months and 12 days. He came to Barry County at the age of twenty-one and has resided in the county since that time. He was united in marriage to Miss Mary M. Hadley, June 15, 1890. To this union four children were born, one son and three daughters, who are Roy Stapleton of Exeter, Mrs. Mabel Weatherly and Mrs. Gladys Erwin, both of Exeter, and Mrs. Eunice Bennett of Palo, Kan.; five grandchildren; one brother, Earl Stapleton, of Seligman; two sisters, Mrs. Mamie Patterson of Bentonville, Ark., and Mrs. Dona Rogers of Pueblo, Colo. He professed faith in Christ at the age of eighteen years at the Peoples School House of near Seligman, Mo. He united with the Exeter Baptist Church twenty-eight years ago, and was a faithful and devoted member, serving as a Deacon of the church for a number of years. He was a man of God, an upright citizen, honest and trustworthy. Funeral services were held at the Exeter Baptist Church on Monday afternoon, Sept. 26 by Rev. Chas. Vanzandt of Exeter and Rev. C.F. Siler of Cassville. Burial was in the Maplewood cemetery under the direction of Barr-Blankenship Funeral Service. |
