Text | John R. Stamps was born in Jackson County, Tenn., Oct. 28, 1855, came to Missouri in 1877 and had lived in Newton County ever since except about four years in McDonald County. He was married to Mary Isabelle Kelly Feb. 10, 1878. Eight children were born to this union all of whom are living, Chas. E. Stamps, Stella, Mo., Mrs. J. A. Siler, Neosho, Mo., Mrs. T. M. Sheppard, Stella, Mo., Mrs. S. H. Hardy, Cheffer, Mo., Mrs. L. A. Wallace, Neosho, Mo., Horace Stamps, Stella, Mo., J. R. Stamps, Fairview, Mo., and Walter Stamps of Stella, Mo. John R., as we had learned to call him, died May 18, 1920 at 5 a.m. and was buried in the Macedonia cemetery, May 19, 1920 age 64 years, 6 months and 20 days. He professed his faith in Christ in 1899 and lived a Christian life. As a good neighbor, a kind father and loving companion he is sadly missed from the community in which he lived. Father has gone and we miss his counsel, kind words and sunny smile but we hope to live as to one day meet him in the great beyond where sorry never comes. |
