Text | J.C. Stamps, another an old time and honorable citizen, died at home near Ridgley, Friday, following an illness extending over the past few months. Mr. Stamps was born and raised in his home section of this county and was well and favorably known by everyone. He was 75 years old and leaves three sons to mourn his passing, who are: Cal, Chas. and Joe, all of whom attended him during his last sickness and death. For many years Squire Stamps, as he was familiarly know, had been justices of the peace in his township and he was a most interesting character. He was always in a jolly mood and ready to joke with friends. Squire Stamps, was always a strong believer in doing things honorably and open and his life was lived in that manner. He was a personal friend of the late Dr. John Ray, father of Charles Ray, editors of the Cassville Democrat and never came to Cassville but what visited our office. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Chas. McNabb, after which the remains were laid to rest in the Concord cemetery, under direction of the Barr Undertaking Co., of Exeter. |
