| Text | Abstract Wendell Stacy, 49, son of longtime Cassville residents Carolyn Stacy and the late Jim Stacy, died Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2007, in his home in Memphis, Tennessee. Wendell was born July 3, 1958, in San Fernando, California. His family lived at Lake Tahoe, Nevada, before moving to Cassville in 1965 to manage the Roaring River State Park Stables. He graduated from Cassville High School in 1976, where he served as president of the FFA. He attended Crowder College, the University of Arkansas, and Memphis State University, where he received his degree in Business Agriculture. He also received his Doctor of Philosophy degree in Journalism. While in College Wendell began working as a cameraman with a Northwest Arkansas television sports show, then went on to be the sports writer for the Razorback games and television sports anchor for a network in Fayetteville, Arkansas. He later became a television sports anchor for NBC in Little Rock, Arkansas and went on to be a mainline television anchor and reporter for the ABC network in Memphis, Tennessee. He wrote and filmed a number of documentaries, with special coverage of Martin Luther King's life, as well as coverage of several national news events, including hurricane Katrina. At the time of his death, he was working as an investigative reporter and freelance writer. Wendell is survived by his mother, his sister, and two nieces of Fayetteville, Arkansas. Wendell loved music and played the drums with a band for relaxation. He had a tremendous love for his family, friends, and dogs. He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing trips to Canada, traveling, photography and collecting guns and knives. Wendell will be long remembered as a person who spent much time helping others, a man with a great sense of humor, one who could put others at ease. He was charming, warm and caring, and had an optimistic spirit. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, August 26, 2007, in Cassville First United Methodist Church, under direction of Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville. Burial will be at Maplewood Cemetery, Exeter. |
