Text | Elmer Sprinkles, 28 year-old lifelong resident of Barry County, was fatally injured in a one car accident about 9:00 p.m. Thursday about 1 ½ miles north west of Washburn, at the Pharis Ledenham corner. According to the state patrol, Sprinkles was killed when his car failed to make the turn and hit an embankment head on. Capt. J. A. Berlglund, head of the patrol’s safety division reported that Sprinkles was the 1000th traffic death for 1956 in the state of Missouri. Born near Washburn February 15, 1928, he was a son of Jake and Faye (Galyen) Sprinkles, and attended the Measles Prairie School. He served in the army from 1950 to 1952, one year of which was spent in Korea. He was married in 1953. Surviving are his wife, two children, his father Jake Sprinkles of Washburn; three brothers and his maternal grandfather, Jim Galyen of Cassville, and his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Sena Galyen of Seligman. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon at the Rock Spring Church southwest of Washburn with burial in the Roller and King Cemetery north of Seligman under the direction of Davis-Williamson Chapel In the Valley.
