Text | Harlow Speer, 85, of Cassville, passed away Wednesday, December 6, 2000, in Cedar Ridge Care Center, Cassville, Barry Co., MO. He was born August 10, 1915, in Clayton, NM, the son of Arthur Powell and Mae W. (Riggins) Speer. On December 15, 1941 in Monett, he was united in marriage to Kathleen McCluer, and to this union one son was born. They spent their entire married life in Cassville. Kathleen preceded him in death on February 20, 1997. Also preceding him in death were his parents, three brothers and two sisters. Surviving relatives includes; a son, Gary Speer of Springfield;; three sisters, Grace Ryan and Fern Leach, both of Cassville and Willa Mae Willard of Oklahoma City, OK; four grandchildren; and three great grandchildren. He moved to the Mineral Springs community in 1936. He was a meat cutter by trade. He worked in the meat department at Cooper’s Market, Edmondson Food Store and 20 years with Baker-Seely Super Market. He served with the 39th Service Squadron of the 14th Air Force in the CBI Theatre of the war during World War II. He was custodian of the First Baptist Church, Cassville, where he was a deacon and active member. Funeral services were Saturday in Williamson Funeral Home, Cassville. Rev. John Duncan conducted the services. Burial was in Mineral Springs Cemetery, Cassville, Barry Co., MO. |
