Obit For Wayne Henry Smithson

Text Wayne Smithson, age 68, of Cassville, died December 22 at his home.

Mr. Smithson was born October 11, 1932 in Pryor, Oklahoma, and was a son of Don Earl and Clara Henry Smithson. He married Joana Lee Rowley on June 1, 1957.

He graduated from Cassville High School in 1950, followed by attendance of the Monett Junior College and Southwest Baptist College in Bolivar.

He joined the U.S. Navy and served with the Navy Air Corps during the Korean War, and was stationed in Hutchinson, Kansas. He then worked for Cessna Air Craft in Wichita, Kansas, followed by a return to Oklahoma to attend barber college.

Upon moving back to Cassville, he worked as a barber for 20 years, retiring to become a cattle and poultry farmer.

He was a member of the Cassville First Baptist Church since 1941, and was currently serving as a Cassville City Alderman. He has also served as commander of the Cassville American Legion Post, and continued to serve as financial officer for many years. His memberships also included the Blue Lodge, York Rite Bodies of the Masonic Lodge, Shrine Club, and most recently the Cassville Rotary and Lions clubs.

Additional survivors include one daughter and her husband, two grandchildren, one brother, Carl Smithson and his wife.

He was preceded in death by one brother, R. L. Smithson.

Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, December 28, at Williamson Chapel in Cassville with Dr. John Duncan officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Cassville under the direction of Williamson Funeral Home of Cassville.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. tomorrow, December 27, at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, Quality Hospice, of First Baptist Church Family Life Center in Cassville.
