| Text | Lifelong Barry Resident Dies: Mrs. Melvina Carolina Smith, 85-year-old lifelong resident of Barry County, died Tuesday morning of last week at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Lotta Farmer, near McDowell, where she had made her home for the past several years. The widow of Asher C. Smith who died in 1941, Mrs. Smith was born in Barry County in August 29, 1870. She had been in failing health for the past three years. She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Farmer, Mrs. Gerta Haddock of Monett, and Mrs. Myrtle Carroll of Flippen, Ark., a sister Mrs. Nellie Gillion of Ft Worth, Tex., 23 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren, and 19 great-great grandchildren. Funeral services were held last Friday afternoon at the New Liberty Methodist Church, five miles southeast of Monett with Rev. Albion Erickson officiating. Burial was in the New Liberty Church Cemetery. |
