Text | Lee Smith, 70, of Purdy, died suddenly at 12:35 p.m. yesterday, May 18, at his home. Mr. Smith was born December 17, 1928, in Purdy, the son of Horace and Thelma Daugherty Smith. He was a lifetime Purdy resident. He has been co- owner of Smith-Henderson Construction Company and had been superintendent of the Monett Street Department, retiring in 1991. He served in the Army during the Korean conflict, was a member of Tom Wolfe Post 4207 Monett Veterans of Foreign Wars and Hobbs-Anderson Post 91 Monett American Legion. He was a Baptist. He married Lillian Terry on March 18, 1983, in Miami, Oklahoma, and she survives. Additional survivors include one son, Douglas Smith of Aurora; one step- son, Morris Noll of Aurora; one daughter, Connie Sullivan of Verona; four step-daughters, Teri Linebarger of Shell Knob, Julie Roller of Cassville, Sherri Noll of Republic, and Jennifer Noll of Monett; one brother, Doyle Smith of Springdale, Arkansas, one sister, Wanell Douthitt of Joplin; 10 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Graveside services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 21, at Arnhart Cemetery near Purdy under the direction of Bennett-Wormington Funeral Home of Monett. Friends may call at the funeral home after noon tomorrow, May 20. Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association. |
