Text | J. T. Smelser, age 80 years, passed away at this home here Sunday night, July 10, 1932. “Uncle Tom”, as he was known, came to this county from Kentucky at a very early age and homesteaded the farm on which he lived and died. He married a girl by the name of Molly Blee. To them two children were born, Cleo and Ernest. Mr. and Mrs. Smelser were divorced and he then married Katherine Priest. There were two children born to this marriage, dying in infancy. Mrs. And Mrs. Smelser were divorced and then remarried. After Mrs. Smelser died, Mr. Smelser married Rosa Carter, his present wife. Uncle Tom had been very ill for sometime and had not been expected to live, however his death was a great shock to the community. He was buried in the Roach cemetery, July 11. He is survived by his wife, a son, Cleo, of Albuquerque, N. Mex., a step-son Leroy Carter, and a granddaughter, Mildred Smelser of this community. |
