Text | Martha Jane McCandless-Smalley died at the home of her son, Will Smalley, on highway 44 southeast of Cassville, on July 2, 1929. She was stricken with paralysis about four weeks ago, and since that time was not able to talk to her friends. She was born in Illinois, Dec. 9, 1847, died at the age of 82 years, 6 months and nineteen days. She and Josiah A. Smalley were married Dec. 15, 1867. To this union nine children were born, one dying in infancy and a daughter, Maggie Hayward, dying in 1920. Mrs. Smalley has been a member of the Christian church for 63 years. She is survived by her seven children, who are John of Notawa, Okla., Sam of Neosho, Mo., Jim of Hansen, Idaho, Will at home, Mary Steward of Berryville, Ark., Julia Dye of Sandiago, Calif, and Cena Curry of Hansen Idaho. Her husband Josiah A. Smalley died March 8, 1924. Beside her children, she is survived by other relatives and a large circle of friends. Funeral services were conducted at the home of her son, Will Smalley, on Wednesday afternoon, July 3, 1929 by Chas Vanzandt. A quartette composed of Mrs. Pearl, Mrs. John Ray, and Chas. Willis and Clint Blythe, furnished special vocal selections. Burial in the Corinth Cemetery under the direction of the Horine Funeral Service. Research Note: Death Cert. # 23729 Name: Martha J.
