Mrs. Julia Ann Skelton passed away at her home at Eagle Rock Thursday afternoon, Sept. 5, at the age of 86 years, 4 months, and 19 days.

Mrs. Skelton is believed to have been at her death the oldest native born resident of Barry county. She was born, reared, and lived her entire life in the community where she passed away.

Funeral services were held Friday afternoon, Sept. 6, at the Skelton home at Eagle Rock. The service was conducted by Rev. Charles Vanzandt of Exeter. A quartet from Cassville, composed of Charles Willis, W. C. Blythe, Mrs. Glenn Pearl, and Mrs. B. D. Wilks, furnished music.

Six of Mrs. Skelton?s grandsons acted as pallbearers: Maurice and Rayburn Skelton, Noel and Ray Curry, Harold Skelton, and Ted Stryker. Burial was made in the Munsey cemetery, under direction of the Horine-Culver Funeral Service.

The casket bore a profusion of beautiful flowers. Julia Ann Russell was a daughter of the late Milo and Nicey Russell, pioneer residents of Barry county and Roaring River township. She was born April 17, 1849 on the farm on Roaring river now owned by S.T. Elting and for many years was known as the Sweetin place. In that community and in the community about Eagle Rock, all in Roaring River township, her life was spent.

She was united in marriage to J. N. (Doc) Skelton on December 28,1866. Mr. Skeleton passed away in May 1919. To them were born fourteen children, seven daughters and seven sons. Eleven of the children survive their mother. They are: Mrs. Melvin Callaway of Eureka Springs: Mrs. Edna Vanzandt of Eagle Rock; Mrs. Columbia Bare of Eureka Springs; Mrs. Arizona Curry, Eagle Rock; Mrs. Dora Curry of Morrell, Neb,; Mrs. Florence Stryker, Blue Rapdids, Kan.; J.C. Skelton, Grandview, Ark.; J. M. Skelton, Cassville; Henry, Kirkm Ore.; Clarence, Primrose, Neb.; and Elmer , Waverly, Ill.

Surviving her also is one sister, Mrs. Tennie Dell, of Mano, thirty-five grandchildren and twenty-one great-grandchildren.

In early life she was converted and later became a charter member of the Eagle Rock Baptist church. She remained a faithful member of this church until her passing.

Mrs. Skelton was an outstanding example of that fine type of our pioneer citizens whose sterling character, high ideals, love of county, and practice of the Christian virtues, became the very foundation of our present civilization. She was held in highest esteem and loved by all who knew her. In her passing the church, her community, and our county have suffered a distinct loss.
