Headline D.M. SHUMATE DIES SUDDENLY
Passes Away Wednesday Morning at 2 A.M. at His Home Near Golden of Heart Trouble
Text Dan M. Shumate one of the prominent farmers of the county, and for years one of the leaders in his community, died suddenly at his home near Golden, Wednesday morning, July 16, at 2 am. of heart trouble. For the past three or four year he had been in very poor health, yet the end came unexpectedly. He had never been bedfast and only last Saturday he was in Cassville and his condition did not appear worse than usual.

Mr. Shumate was not only one of the prominent men of the southeast part of the county, but was known over the entire county for his fairness, honesty and clean life. He served the county three times in the capacity of judge of the county court from the eastern district and made a record for fairness and desire to do the right thing.

Beside his wife he is survived by one son, William C. New York, three daughters, Mrs. E.R. Chappell, Mrs. O.M. Farrar and Mrs. Clarence Plannett, all of Miami Okla.

All the children were at home, having come to spend a few weeks with their parents the first time in five years that the family had been together at one time.

Funeral services will be held at home Friday morning at 10:30 and interment made in the Viney Cemetery.
