Mrs. Velma N. Shockley, 72, Washburn, died at 5 a.m. Thursday at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Monett after a long illness. Born June 26, 1908, at Washburn, Mrs. Shockley was a lifetime resident there. She was a long standing member of the Mission Baptist Church, west of Washburn, and belonged to the Washburn Senior Citizens group. On July 29, 1931, she married Lewis R. Shockley. He survives. Additional survivors include a son; a brother, Ivan Looney, Cassville; and two sisters, Mrs. Hazel Martin, Seligman, and Mrs. Mabel Adcock, Washburn. Services were conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Axley’s Culver Chapel of Cassville. The Rev. Hugh Higgs officiated, and burial was in Washburn Prairie Cemetery. |
