Text | Virgil William Shirley, 92, of Monett, died at 2 a.m. today, November 16, at Freeman Hospital in Joplin following a brief illness. Mr. Shirley was born July 9, 1908, in Yuma, Colorado, the son of William M. and Violett Mittan Shirley. He was retired from the Ford Agency in Monett and was a Methodist. He married Ruby Faye Highbarger on August 25, 1933, in Butterfield. Survivors include three sons,of Phoenix, Arizona, of Monett, and Jeral Shirley of Neosho - (died 2001); 14 grandchildren, several great grandchildren, and two great grand grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Leoma Michael; one brother, Nial Shirley; and two sisters, Luella Russell and Lydia Highbarger. Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, November 19, at Bennett-Wormington Chapel in Monett with Rev. Billy Gentry officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Butterfield under the direction of Bennett-Wormington Funeral Home of Monett. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday, November 18, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Camp Barnabas. |
