Obit For Alfred "Pete" Saunders

Text Alfred "Pete" Saunders, 88, of Purdy, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 12, 2011, at Cox Monett Hospital in Monett.

He was born on July 3, 1922, son of Clarence and Cora (Preddy) Saunders, in Cassville. He was a longtime resident of Barry County and worked for Bill Roller for many years as a machine shop foreman. More recently, he worked for the Preddy Machine Shop in Cassville. He was a missionary and pastored several churches including the New Bethel Church in Anderson and the Church of God in Aurora.

He married Opal Terry on Feb. 26, 1944, in Bentonville, Ark. She survives.

Additional survivors include: one son, James A. Saunders and his wife, Gaylene, of Purdy; one daughter, Deborah K. Newman, of Campbellsburg, Ky.; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; three brothers, John Saunders, of Washburn, Charles Saunders, of Cassville, and Verdayne Saunders, of Republic; and two sisters, June Bateman, of Verona, and Norma Hayward, of Cassville. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Ernest Saunders in 1972; three brothers; and one sister.
