Obit: Leland Smithson Salamon Leland Smithson Salamon passed away at South Hampton Place in Columbia, MO on August 17, 2011. She was born in Exeter, MO on October 20, 1911 to Earl Lee and Leland Jan (Jordan) Smithson. She attended Vandzant Grade School and graduated from Exeter High School in 1929. She graduated from Joplin Junior College and Monett Business College.

In 1941, Leland went to work in Washington, D.C. for the Commodity Exchange Authority. She met her future husband, Francis Joseph Salamon there. Leland and Frank transferred to Chicago, IL to work at the Board of Trade and were married in Chicago on May 20, 1944. Leland worked as a Comptroller for the Commodity Exchange Authority until her retirement on December 1, 1971. Upon retirement Leland and Frank moved to Rogers. AR. After Frank's death on July 4, 1988, Leland moved to Columbia, MO to be near family. She would move between Rogers and Columbia over the next 23 years to be near family in both places.

Survivors are nephews, nieces, great nieces and great nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Jane Smithson Foland, Columbia, MO, and brothers Don Earl Smithson of Cassville, MO and Frank Lee Smithson of Cushing, OK, niece Carol Smithson Arms of Edmund, OK and two nephews, Robert Lee Smithson of Emporia, KS and Wayne Henry Smithson of Cassville, MO, great niece Tamara Day Romero of Belen, NM.

A grave side service will be held at Maplewood Cemetery in Exeter, Mo at 1:00am August 19, 2011 by Rev Glenn Erwin.
