Text | Napoleon B. Rowley died at his home near Talpa, Lawrence county, Nov. 1, 1913 of paralysis, aged 62 years. He had resided in that section for many years, since leaving Barry county and had many friends. He was the oldest son of the late Joseph F. Rowley who resided at Washburn, during life and was a brother of Mrs. Henry Ledenham of near Washburn, and was born either in Iowa or California. In 1872 he came to Barry County with his father, who purchased a farm two miles west of this city, and later on moved to Washburn where he lived until his removal to Lawrence county. He left a wife and ten children to mourn his passing. Rev. J. T. Brattin of this city, conducted the funeral services at Mt. Olivet Church, Nov. 3, where a large number of neighbors had assembled to pay their last respect. He was a member of the Mr. Olivet church. Matter of History In February, 1882, Napoleon Rowley met ex-Sheriff, A.J. Hopkins at Washburn, and they got into an altercation, when Rowley shot and killed Mr. Hopkins. Mr. Rowley was tried in Barry county circuit court and acquitted, self-defense having been established. This trouble grew out of the killing of Lafayette Rowley at the residence of the late J. L. Blankenship just west of Corsicana in 1877, by Sheriff Hopkins who was attempting to arrest Rowley for some trouble he got into in Texas. Research Note: Missouri Death Cert.# 36670 Name: Napoleon B.
